Great addition to the discussion...

Skip is right. Never seen a baseball fanbase as good, and as knowledgeable as LSU has. I'm sure winning all those Championships has something to do with the mindset, but they are the best, and numbers, and actions don't dispute it. Now, on the Rant, thats another thing, indeed...

This isnt about LSU its about our fanbase.

These 18-22 year old KIDS deserved a celebration for what would be one of the best moments of their life.
Obviously without the victory lap those kids would have left the park disappointed.
I hope this year LSU wins the Super Regional and when the fans lineup for a victory lap the players just shoot the finger and tell the fans to go cheer for Stony Brook.
I know that won't happen, and I know that most of the fans didn't participate in the Stony Brook lap, but it's worth it just to make a point.

Yes I can. Can you see the difference in "celebrating" with the other team and congratulating them on a hard fought victory with a hand shake and wish good luck?
Victory lap = celebration.

Did I say anything about a victory lap?

You were defending the victory lap, the one thing we have disagreed with

... during the victory lap.
Unless you saw the team at a bar after the game.

But a victory lap, in my opinion, is when the team and fans are celebrating together about a victory. What I am referring to is when fans are congratulating the other team on a well played game or series. Some of these may occur right by the dugout and some may happen to go around the field depending on the fans, but it doesn't mean the fans are celebrating an LSU loss. I know its semantics but it is different in my eyes.

Its obvious you dont understand what some of our fans were upset about. Thus the original pos in this thread.
Some victories are celebrated with handshakes by the dugout? Cool
How many other ones have you seen where the opposing team walks around the outfield with fans lined up high fiving them?

One where the a lot of fans want to show their appreciation for good baseball? Stony Brook was damn good and nobody knew it coming in. It doesn't make people less of a fan to want to show a team respect for playing well. I know there were plenty of adults shaking hands with them but I am sure a lot of kids wanted to meet them as well. Anyone who plays in Alex Box is a hero to a lot of kids whether they wear purple and gold or not.

I disapprove of opposing teams getting congratulated for defeating the Tigers. Tiger fans who high-fived them get a in my book.
You might as well cheer them on when they stomp on the eye of the Tiger at midfield.

Both sides of this argument have some merit and one side will never convince the other;lee should lett it go.
BUT:
Trying to belittle or downplay LSU's legitimately awesome baseball Fanbase and call them phony does not have merit. We are the "best college baseball fans in America", whether we give a V- lap to stony brook or not, and have been since Skip built his dynasty, and when we get to Omaha this year we gonna run that town like we always do.

Some of us Boxtards are about to get a tounge-lashing from LSURussian when he gets here. I think he was in one of those pictures.

You contradicted yourself for me.
I don't think I did. Teams will win games that they have no business winning simply because they other team didn't take the team seriously. When you play a series that first loss generally wakes the team up. Sometimes losses happen in baseball when the coaches rest players because they don't need to win that game. I honestly don't have an explanation for why LSU dropped a series to USC.
quote:
Losing to Stony Brook had a pretty lasting affect on LSU. Y'know, since it ended the season.
This was a case of poor explanation on my part because I was thinking in terms of regular season losses. In baseball you can lose a game, and still win the series. You don't have this same opportunity in other sports.
At the end of the day I think it is an interesting dynamic to see the way most LSU baseball fans can take a loss gracefully. Yet, many of these same fans will be hung up for days after a loss in football.

Skip loves and respects the game. Baseball as a whole transcends LSU baseball. No problem with Skip
