Creating Universal Crawfish Sizing

Can we come up with a sizing or grading scale for crawfish like we have for shrimp. It's crazy that every place you go to get live crawfish, they might use different terms. So far this season the places I've gotten them from have been all over the board
Field Run
Small/medium
Medium/large
Preferred
Select
A1/Jumbo
I've also seen the terms
1 Select
True Select
Extra Large.
The confusing thing is the terns might mean something different between sellers. What's the difference between Select and Jumbo, med./large and preferred.

Why don't they do it like shrimp and sell them by the number of crawfish/#?

It's weird that you post this because I was thinking this same exact thing this morning.

The problem arises is that some places select is the biggest but others, they have jumbo. If you didn't know you'd expect huge Crawfish and get smaller ones. It's all confusing.

Probably because the crawfish industry is pretty much still in its infancy relatively speaking. Up until 20 years ago, no one outside of LA really ate crawfish. Thus there are no huge clearing houses or sorting facilities (that I'm aware of).
In other words it would cost too much. Just a guess
