They sent out a letter to alumni saying the B S in Forestry is no longer offered. Sad end to what once was a respected program . Forestry will now be an 'area of interest' or something like that under another major.

Too bad Hammertime got banned today. I believe forestry is his area of expertise. Not sure if he has a degree or not. I think he does.

My dad got his forestry degree from LSU back in '72 or so. He said they used an old deuce and-a-half to go on "field trips."
I am sure he would post about this if he saw it but he is at a camp in Shell Beach and going fishing in the morning.
Yeah, I'm jelly!

One of my good friends graduated is graduating in forestry this friday. I think LaTech is the only forestry program thats worth a shite. I can go recount but from his pictures it only looked like about 8 people that went through the field program this spring.

My Dad got his Masters in forestry from LSU... Haven't talked to him today, but I'm sure this is going to make him upset. Especially considering he has put that degree to work for the better part of 40 years.

In the late 70's, there were so many forestry students that their normal summer camp facilities near Bogalusa couldn't even hold them all. And now, LSU's academic elitist mindset has brought the program to this.

In the 70s it took two buses to carry all forestry students for summer camp. This was a good forestry program and produced many professionals. LA Tech and McNeese State both had forestry degree programs back then. Now it is down to LA Tech. The letter claims the LSU degree will still be accredited but it will not be a BSF.

Yeah, kinda sad actually.. I know z lot of people that got HR degrees and got great jobs straight out of college.

That being said, I'm pretty sure I will develop cancer sometime soon from taking classes in the old forestry building

The powers that be just dont see the need for it anymore. I guess they don't pull in the revenue the arts colleges do

Hate to hear that. LSU's Arborculture dept is who puts on all the state CE's for our Arborist meetings and offer a lot of classes training for what we do. I really dont know how this is related but has to be somehow. Hallie Dozer is who heads all of our classes up and organizes the events, if any of you know who she is. And whats even odder, if they are connected, is the fact they have been expanding the classes and offering more this year than ever. Maybe its to make up for any lost work load she has, just a guess.
