Just watched the Gator Bowl vs USCe man that team was great. How would they have fared against The U, FSU, Okla, and The Cuse? These were the teams ahead in the final rankings.
I think we would have had a good chance against all of them.

Auburn was a better team that year also, they just didn't play each other.

The only team I would give them a chance to win against out of those listed would be Syracuse.

Solid contribution.

The 87 team had some great players -- Hodson, Tony Moss, Sam Martin (my personal favorite), Wendell Davis, Harvey Williams, Eddie Fuller, Greg Jackson, Eric Hill, Ron Sancho...the list goes on and on.

That team was pretty special at times though. They would go on these scoring sprees that were almost unreal. Then they would get shutdown in games also.

Yes that is the same year. The OSU game was frustrating.

The Bama loss was excrutiating. I think Derrick Thomas just sacked Guidry again.

True. Do we win if Hodson plays?

I've only seen the few minutes on youtube. Seemed like we missed some big plays and should have won that one.

There was a pissing match at the beginning of the game to see who would run out last. Hodson threw an INT at the end of the game when we were in FG range to win it.

The best Tiger team that I had the pleasure of watching until 2003. That was a little bit quirky team but they were very talented and would have had a shot against anyone. They really should have beaten Ohio State but ended up fortunate to preserve the tie. the only defeat was legit, but I would have loved seeing Hodson in that game (he was out with an injury) even though Guidry was a capable backup.

IIRC we started off slow, missed a lot of chances, and had a few really bad turnovers. Probably would've won because I think we even had the lead at half in that game... and left a lot of points on the board in the first half we'd have had a better shot to get with our starter.

didn't look it up, but we were playing theU and FSU around that time.

I think '88 or '89 theU beat our brains in in TS. And Cuse beat us in the '89 hall of fame bowl (I think)

87 was a great Tiger team, the OSU game could have gone either way, they complain about a quick clock late in the game, but the refs missed an early fumble they had deep at start of game. Hodson actually threw pass to WD late that got picked off (WD went wrong way or TH threw wrong way) after Harvey almost scored to put game our way. People who though MG should be starter got thier chance in loss to Ala, but it was S martin's rare fumble and MG's erratic play that killed us. Not a NC team caliber, but darn good.

That's what I was gonna say. Every year is different but Those teams were the elite and LSU was not at their level.

That's the part of the 6 min I remember seeing and after Harvey's run.

U - won it all that year by beating OU in the Orange Bowl (I was there). Would love to have seen us play either that year.

FSU - lost a classic game to the U that year but beat Auburn soundly in the regular season. An LSU-FSU matchup would've been great that year.

Maybe the biggest thing hurting us from maxing out was the HC - Archer's first year. The gap between Arnsparger and Archer may not have been apparent in '87 but it would be soon.

What people forget about the 87 OSU game was that the field was watered that morning by mistake. Harvey and Sammy slipped and fell untouched on certain TD runs. We were so much better than them. The Bama loss was simple. Hodson was hurt and didn't come in until too late. I believe we could have hung with Miami, FSU etc that year.....at full strength.
