The investigation stemmed from a complaint filed by Metairie lawyer Michael W. Gahagan, who claimed Devall and his brother, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Agent Page Devall, assaulted and intimidated him on Dec. 21 after he parked too close to their deer stand at a hunting club near Bogalusa.

Gahagan said the two referred to their law enforcement roles repeatedly during the altercation and threatened to throw him in jail. He said Kevin Devall claimed he “makes the laws in Louisiana,” while Page Devall allegedly said, “I kick in doors for a living.”

IRL probably just flip'em off and tell them "Arrest me! I don't care who you are move your stands farther from the road or deal with it." I find as I get older I have very little tolerance for big tuff talk.“For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.”

Parked too close to stand, I have seen how a few law enforcement guys hunt. He could have been parking on the blacktop and still been within a few yards of their stands , the LE guys always seem to be more gun dudes than outdoor dudes.

But, I slink away from any altercation where folks are armed. Don't hurt my pride at all.

Sounds like he did the right thing. He lived to tell his story and hopes for justice in this situation. He very well could have ended up in a "hunting accident" if he provoked the jack booted thug. I will go on record and say IMO that the majority of federal LEO's think they are better than the rest of us common citizens.

Really not much different than 'Im a lawyer and ill sue your arse" or "Im one of the largest business owners in this town and I can ruin you".

Folks with authority will try and use it to intimidate others. Sometimes they are make good on these threats and other times it comes back to bite them in the arse. Best thing to do is not stoop to their level and keep the advantage on your side.

Take out the word "federal" and you're spot on. The majority of LEO's I've met have that Johnny Law complex. Pretty pitiful because it gives the good LEOs a bad rap.

Always better to speak softly and carry a big stick. I've learned not to say anything I don't want read in open court or on the news - and never name drop.

Quote from the article:
quote:

State Police, who administered a polygraph test to Gahagan several weeks ago, said they conducted a thorough investigation. Edmonson said there was “no indication” Kevin Devall had identified himself as a state trooper during the altercation, as Gahagan has claimed.

1) They made an accuser take a lie detector test? Do they do that for rape victims too?
2) If they found "no indication" that the trooper identified himself as one, how did the accuser know he was a trooper?

That was a much more serious encounter than it seems on the surface.

Video/audio recording may have gone a long way in that investigation.

The good thing is that the lawyer outed them and their behavior is on record. Any subsequent acts will establish a pattern. I suspect that they know it and will likely watch themselves a little closer. They also better wise up and realize that someone else must might shoot them.
