Trader Joe's FTW!!

Finally got around to going to the one here in nashville.

wow..i see what the hype is about. awesome variety of food that is really high quality, delicious and not expensive.

unfortunately due to stupid liquor laws, no 2-buck chuck here.

BS Tennessee liquor laws. I want to say anything over 6.5% can't be sold in grocery stores and must be sold in liquor stores.

I have a feeling that once the one in BR is open I'll be doing the majority of my shopping there.

re: Trader Joe's FTW!!

i went for the first time this weekend in dallas and i didnt think it was that cheap

some stuff yes but their produce was very high

apples/oranges, etc were 80/90 cents a piece and they werent that big. i normally pay $2 for 5 at kroger plus they had whole ears of corn for 88 cents a piece. kroger had them this weekend 3 for 99 cents

i know it seems small but between myself and two kids we go through 20-25 apples a week

It is different, more like a supplement to your regular grocery store...

The variety of offerings is not that great in number is one reason.

The one on Shepherd hasn't really done anything for me.

this. you definitely have to have an idea of prices at your local kroger or publix ahead of time but there are some really unique things they offer you dont find other places.

some GREAT deals on coffee beans and olive oil but i wouldn't do alot of product or meat shopping there.

Meh I like it but it has a lot of snack foods. I would have to go to a larger store as well.

Was surprised how small it was when we went. It was ok, I got some coffee, which is pretty good, and some $5 Pinot Noir that some lady was raving about....amazingly it was pretty damn good.

It's like a normal grocery store with none of the name brands or variety or choices.

Some of them have an almost militant hippie vibe. I agree their prices on meat (their meat department if you could call it that is extremely small too because a lot of hippies are anti cow eating) and produce are high but they have some frozen stuff that isn't in other stores for low prices. They have a very good selection of cheap wines. They offer hippie household products too but I don't care what kind of chemicals are in my detergent haha.

they also own 'aldi' if you've ever shopped there. that store is like the dollar general of grocery stores.

however, trader joes has REALLY HIGH QUALITY; you can laugh at the lack of choice, but just about everything i bought there was delicious and super inexpensive.

i think i paid $1.99 for a big can of coconut oil cooking spray (like pam) and its DELICIOUS.

lots of great ethnic frozen foods you wont find anywhere else.

lots of great desserts and cheese. I paid $1.99 for ciligene mozzeralla balls in water..kroger charges $5.99 for..and they were perfect for the caprese salad i made.

all their cheeses are really really good.

i also picked up 'frozen chocolate croissants' that you let thaw (and rise) and they are the tits! a 2-pack was $1.99 and they are better than the ones at Provence or Bread & Company at 1/3 the price.

yup. exactly how i use it. great variety of frozen dishes for a good lunch, and some good pre-prepared wraps and other cold items. also excellent variety of chips and other snacks/desserts you won't get at other stores. that's pretty much how I use it. don't expect it to replace going to rouse's or kroger's or wherever you may do your normal shopping.

I hit up TJ's while in Atlanta and stocked up on some good snacks and groceries. I'm extra eager for the BR spot to open up. Any word on when they are expecting to open? I don't end up in that part of town often, so I have no idea where they are on construction.
