I feel like he did play in the box some earlier in his career when Mathieu, Claiborne, PP7, Taylor, etc could handle the receivers

How often are first rounders aside from quarterbacks (sometimes) not expected to immediately start? If you pay someone that kind of money then you are expecting immediate impact.

Either way you try to look at it they are not going to take a person in the first round that they don't think will have substantial impact. He is still worth a lot of money to that franchise, and on top of that you are not going to use a pick on someone you don't feel is going to start. I feel it is great for Reid however I don't feel like this should be any surprise to absolutely anyone.

The days of draft and develop seem to be over for the most part. Guys selected in the first few rounds are being called on to start in most cases. (not sure what the statistics are but sure seems that way)...
