Anderson was the most dominant defensive player I ever saw play at LSU or any other school. Such a shame about his knee as he missed his entire junior year. Bevan Tomlinson and Anderson best three linebackers I ever saw in purple and gold.
Most teams had negative rushing yards. Anderson was also a fullback on short yardage and was a major beast near the goal.
His draft status was totally about his knees.

Part of Anderson's time with the Tigers, a fullback named Eddie Ray was the real deal. Powerful runner, strong blocker and outstanding punter. Godfrey Zanunbrecher was an All-SEC center in 1969. Ray and Zaunbrecher had a good pro careers. So did Casanova, who played made All-America in 1969-70-71 as a cornerback. Most of McClendon's teams were small but feisty.

LSU was known as a tenacious, well coached Team. Never overly talented teams; most would be crowd favorites today.

Sammy G got a tryout in the pro's...came home and said there were guys up there who'd give up the body just so they wouldn't have to go back to the car wash. He on the other hand, like other Tiger athletes of that era, was able to make a living not getting killed. P.s. I love the comment about some of these guys not being "that athletic". Oh, and you left out, Remmy Prudhomme, a mere 6'7'. Besides football he was all state in basketball as well.

Anderson and Bevan were truly All Americans.
Injuries hampered them in their later years.
It is unfair to compare them to to todays players.
I am a friend of Bevan and i remember when my dad gave me a football signed by both of them who were his patients for surgery .
They still both suffer from injuries they have from giving their all for the purple and gold.
They are both great representatives of LSU and we should all be proud of them !

What about the defensive ends? Mike Robichaux and John Garlington were both very disruptive. I am pretty sure that Robichaux came to the football team as a walkon and was a lot of fun to watch chasing the QB's...

fwiw Bevan was a LB not DB, and Mel Branch was a DL on the Chinese Bandits, not a RB. Branch had a productive career in the start up AFL.
While we're talkin bout athleticism, the name Roy "Moonie" Winston should be included. He played Guard and LB as a two way player for the Tigers, and jumped over to baseball after the FB season ended. He went on to played several outstanding seasons at LB for the Minn Vikings. He was a Tiger in the early 60's.
