Is Your Child Graduating High School This Year?

Congrats! What kind of party are you throwing?
Been to a few open house parties this weekend and I'm wanting my son's to be greater than just an open house next year. Thinking crawfish boil and a band. Want this to be a great gathering for him and his friends. How much is too much you think?

I think it being at a church is a big factor. Seniors just want to drink and get fricked up. Renting them a house for the night, giving them frick tons of beer, and taking their keys to make sure they don't drink and drive is typically the way to go.

Agreed. That's why we aren't having a gathering at church building.

Eta: but not OML style. they have a lunch with church for the grads and family, so that's done. I'm thinking about a great gathering feast festalia!

Don't do all that.

The most celebrated accomplishment should be the first time he gets a good job that can support himself. My parents didn't have a big gathering for high school or college. However, when I landed that first gig that got me off the pay roll. Bam, it was on!

Everyone graduates high school, it is expected and easy.

I'd just give them burger meat and hot dogs and let them have fun. They won't mind parents there at first, but it will probably get old.

You think? He plays electric guitar and loves that kind of thing, and we live in Nashville, so was thinking something along this line.

This.

It's high school, for god's sake. Not to be taken for granted by any means but by the same token, it's ONLY HIGH SCHOOL. I'll throw a party when mine get a J.O.B.

Regardless if its easy, it's still a big life point for him and his class. I just got a "congrats" when I got my job. Graduating high school though the parents still indulged us. Plus when you get your job, friends are likely going to be all over the damn place to where it won't be the same, since they're certainly not flying to him to celebrate his new job.

I'd go light on the band. High Schoolers don't need something that big. Simply giving them a house is enough.

This is what we did. It was awesome. Graduated 08

Getting a band sounds dumb IMO.

Trust me, they're not going to give a damn and would rather listen to each other's iPods. Get them a good stereo that allows them to hook up each other's iPods/iPhones and they'll be set.

Crawfish Boil is cool. Just do it early, and leave them time to hang out with their friends who are graduating also.
