I know Gun Dog is for upland hunting, but can anyone tell me the difference between Water Dog and Game Dog?
ETA: Puppy Question? do you leave water in the crate at night and while you're gone to work for the day ?

In Game Dog I would imagine your are going to learn to teach commands such as whoa, steady to wing, steady to shot, backing, etc. Some of which would transfer over to retrievers and other commands that would be specific to pointing dogs...

Unless you want him pissin every 5 minutes, do not put water in the crate.

All depends on how well you want the dog to be trained, but there are better methods than using those books to train dogs. Danny Farmer and Mike Lardy have some excellent Videos if you want a more advanced dog
When crate training, use as small a crate as you can. If its too big, they think they can soil one area and stay in the other. Never works out that way. If its small they won't want to soil the area and have to lie in it
