would the NBA grant another expansion team to round out the total number of teams at 32?

Looks like its all over for Seattle this time and possibly the future.

That writer has been extremely biased for Sacramento throughout the whole process and everything you read from him should be taken with a large grain of salt.

That being said, I still think the NBA denies everything tomorrow. I do think they are going to have issues though if they tell the Maloofs that they aren't allowed to sell their team for $65 million more.

I do not believe this ends tomorrow though. I think this is going to drag out for a while.

That cuts both ways.

The reality is once Sacramento came up with a local buyer and arena plan that passed muster, Seattle's chances went down dramatically. Arison's tweets make this plain. If Sacramento had stalled out, you're looking at the Seattle Sonics next year.

Its not as simple as highest bid wins. If it were, Larry Ellison would have a team by now and Mark Cuban would own the Cubs.

Perhaps, but the Maloofs have no money and no friends in the NBA.

Sacramento, like Seattle, has been a great NBA market for decades. Only in the last few years, when the Maloofs went broke, stopped investing in the team, and antagonized the fan base did the support dry up. The Maloofs make George Shinn look like Jerry Buss.

Seattle will get a team (if you believe those tweets I posted perhaps by 2014/15). But it doesn't look likely it will be the Kings.

How far is Sacramento from Oakland, not far. Why can't they cheer for Golden State or go to GS games. No need for a damn NBA team in Sacramento. Seattle deserves one of Sac Town. frick em.

so in summary:

Lets do the terrible thing that happened to Seattle to some other city the because we feel bad about Seattle and having two teams in one region doesn't work.

Portland to Seattle is 2.5 hrs by car. Oakland to Sacramento is 1.5.

Seattle is smaller market than Bay Area, Portland is a smaller market than Sacramento.

KC, who got it from Cincy, who got it from Syracuse, who got it from Rochester.

14 years was the longest that team had been in any single city until it got to Sacramento, where it has been for nearly 30 years.

Bingo.

Pro sports owners are clubbish and tend to exclude people they don't want for whatever reason, which is why Rush Limbaugh wasn't allowed to be part of a group that bought the St. Louis Rams.

The behavior by Steve Ballmer since Sacramento met the league's demands to keep the team have been scorched-earth to the point where I think he'll be blackballed from any attempt to buy a team, even though the Milwaukee Bucks and a few others may hit the market soon.

Why is Ballmer a villain here? They poured hundreds of millions into this until Sacramento scrapped together a plan (which just had a fraud lawsuit filed against it yesterday btw). So in response, he raised his bid. They have made no disparaging comments whatsoever about the NBA. Just because they happen to partner with the Maloofs doesn't make them bad guys. The owners love them if anything. They single handedly rose the value of everyone's franchise.

I agree with most of what he/she says.

Seattle and Sacramento each made their last presentations to the board. All of the owners are now inside of the meeting room and are voting. They will hold a press conference after they are done that will be streamed live here LINK

Sacramento media starting to report that the Kings will stay. It will be interesting to see what the NBA has to say and if there is anything for the Seattle group as far as expansion.

The gist out there for a while now is that the league doesn't want to expand.

That limits their options to buying another team on the market. Their choices are limited, as the Bucks are the only team I'm aware of on the market now that the Timberwolves' owner has decided to keep them.

I'm going to stand neutral in this situation... New Orleanians have been on both sides of this equation... lost a team to another city (Jazz to Utah) and got a team to move here (Hornets now Pelicans from Charlotte)

Looks like it was voted 22-8 to keep the Kings in Sacramento. Not sure if they voted on the sale or not. Details are still pretty fuzzy.

What is with the NBA not wanting to move the kings?

Phoenix doesn't deserve an NHL team. I don't understand Bettman/Stern.
