Sadly, it seems that the console may not be released in 2013, as a new report that surfaced on Italian website MondoXbox claims that Blu-ray licensing problems are preventing Microsoft from actually putting the next-gen device on sale.

I get all my xbox info from MondoBox

Oh god. My Blu-Ray collection is just now getting good. I'll be damned if Microsoft is going to kill off another format. Especially one I use!

My blu ray collection never really took off. I have a handful like batman but I couldn't get myself to trade in my movies for it and I already had a big DVD collection.

This is exactly why I didn't want Sony to win the format war.

Sony is on the Blu Ray board of directors. Apparently they have some exclusive deal with the Blu Ray Association in regards to consoles.

They can essentially hold Microsoft hostage when it comes to Blu Ray and put them at a competitive disadvantage.

Sounds like they are trying to force Microsoft to miss the holiday season. Which would be a huge advantage for Sony.

As successful as the Xbox has been in the past 11 years and you think they should just stick to software?

If Sony wasn't so incompetent then MS would have never gotten into the console business. They messed up and pissed off ole Bill though so he figured he would give them some competition. It's worked so far.

MS got into the market while Sony had a monopoly on it. MS got into said market because it was expanding and they thought they could gain a foothold (took a second console, but they did get there).

As far as licensing issues, Sony is the 2nd largest holder in the group that "owns" the format. I doubt they could actually hold anything up (they only have like a 23-25% stake in it).
