I crack up at people that think it is 100% that he died. At that time there were still talks of a movie. They made the ending like this for everything to point to him being dead as closure if they dont get a movie deal made.

I agree with this because Tony Soprano is a fictional character.

Ultimately, that Members Only guy could have shot Tony point blank in the head ten times only to have the bullets bounce off of him if that's how the next page in the script unfolded.

In this instance yes. I'm color blind, my shirt is pink. It looks off white to me, but the shirt is still pink.

That's got to be so awesome for chase. Millions of people watched his show, we're all here arguing over this, and with one interview he could make it whatever he wants. One email. One page of paper

if he made the movie and the first scene starts off black and you hear tony say, "Is this a blackout" and the light come back on and the members only guy just goes and sits down at the bar to eat.....how pissed would all of your be.

true, but another watcher suggested that he killed the whole family at the table. i said no way they'd kill the entire family. they'd shoot him in front of his family.

Killing uninvolved people is verboten among wiseguys. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it's looked down on and would have consequences to the perpetrator. In fact, that's an argument against him being killed. If they were going to whack him, it wouldn't be with his family sitting there with them. Although they did kill Phil in front of his wife and grandkids.

Anyway, he's dead.

only because he'd be a sellout. I wouldn't be mad but it would devalue the entire series a bit for me

Take for example the Russian mobster story-line, although Christopher and Paulie beat him up pretty good and Paulie shot him, the Russian mobster's fate is never revealed to the point where the viewer would feel "closure" on the story-line. One could guess and say, well, he probably died in the Pine Barrens, but maybe he survived? There's no question he was one tough SOB, so you never know.

I never watched Sopranos but I listened to an interview with Chase a few weeks ago and he explained what happened that wasn't shown because he figured it didn't matter.

Something like he was discovered by some girl scouts, brought to hospital, family or whatever was contacted, he suffered massive brain trauma and was sent back to Russia to live out the rest of his days.

Since 98%+ of the people (including me) are certain that (as of now) Tony is dead, I almost expect Chase to give the world the bird in the near future by releasing the "missing 15 seconds" that show Members Only guy walking menacingly up to Tony and then asking "Are the onion rings good here?"

I guess the only thing that bugs me is a motivated killer, but tony pissed off enough people. shite, it could've been some nobody relative of any number of people that tony harmed

It probably wasn't NY that killed him, Tony would probably have recognized anyone from NY, so they would have done it somewhere else. One theory was that it was revenge for the Pine Barrens guy, but could have been anyone.

NY could have called in a ringer like NJ did from time to time.

Though NY was supposed to be pretty large so it could have still been someone from there.

What is you guys' opinion on this subject?

Personally, I don't think he was killed. The song, that being "Don't Stop Believing", is playing at the time which indicates to me at least in some way that the Sopranos live on, and what we've seen to that point is merely a glimpse into the life. We, the audience, have in essence been taken out.

There really is no "right" answer per se. But to me, he doesn't die. We're merely abruptly taken out of their lives.

ETA: Just read the article posted and the analysis of the POV nature of the final scene and how it played out. It does seem to make sense that he was killed per that explanation, but that is merely one man's opinion. Interesting though.

Of course they could, but i think it was a realtively short time frame after Phil was whacked and the last episode. Uusally it would take a little planning and time to hire an out of towner and get permission to whack a made guy. Also, did Tony use out of town guys? Its been a while since i watched those episodes.

ETA: and the killing of Phil in front of his wife was not by design, he was in hiding and they tracked him, they had to take him when he popped up. I also don't think the mob would hit him in public like that, too many chances for things to get fouled up and or get caught. More likely someone else imo.
