Maureen Oleskiewicz died Tuesday morning at Illinois Masonic Hospital after choking on a hot dog at Wrigley Field prior to Sunday’s Reds-Cubs game, NBCChicago.com reports.

The 28-year-old junior high school teacher lost consciousness and fell into the row in front of her during the national anthem Sunday. Her brother, who attended the game with her, said no one had noticed her choking. She had no pulse as aid was rendered, and she never regained consciousness after being taken to the hospital.

The Cubs released a statement Wednesday:

“We are saddened to hear news of the untimely death of Maureen Oleskiewicz. We express our deepest sympathy to her family and friends. We will continue to keep her family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

When I read this, my first thought is how long till someone sues now.

I read about that on yahoo. Wouldn't drinking something help. You'd figure a person would have a drink around while eating. But I've also read in the comment section on yahoo that hotdogs are one of the main foods that causes deaths because of the shape. I'd at least thought drinking while eating would help it go down if it starts to get stuck. Sad story.

Ban hotdogs immediately. What was she doing eating a hotdog during the national anthem? I'd say I'm suprised, but considering it's baseball and some of the reasons those guys go on the dl, it doesn't suprise me at all. Baseball players are truely the king of the pussies when it comes to pro athletes.

Of all franchises out there, it's the Cubs and their fans that are choking?

Has anyone ever experience this choking feeling? It's awful. I nearly choked on a Chipotle burrito earlier in the year trying to eat it way too fast. Terrifying. Luckyily I was able to cough really hard and clear the blockage.

I choked on a penny when I was a kid. My dad saved my life by doing the Heimlich Maneuver.

How she sat their and nobody noticed is beyond me.

I would be flailing around it it were me. And I would have broken the back of the chairs in front trying to perform heimlich on myself.

Yeah, same thing for me. Trying to eat too fast between classes and choked at Arby's while I was the only person in the dining room. Probably only five seconds I couldn't breathe before I cleared it but I had already started to get up to get help from someone behind the counter or look for a good chair to give myself the Heimlich.

The family should sue the brother for being oblivious. Also, the jury should put some comparative negligence back on her for failing to properly chew her hot dog FWIW IMO

I chocked on some steak when I was younger, didn't chew it enough. I eventually coughed it up by myself. Scary as shite.

No, but not accurate either. Cubs are bad, they're not choking, they're just bad. It's not like they get there every year a la the braves and come away with nothing (ie choking) they're just bad.
