Great piece by the WAFB sports team! Awesome stories from Randy Davis and Ben McDonald!

Ready to beat that Aggie arse this weekend!

It's to late to be a smartass.

So, can you please provide a link?

They are supposed to put an extended version online, but I don't see it yet.

Was this about the LSU team that went to college station and took the regional on the road vs one of that nations best teams that season?

Strange that's been on my mind all week

I didn't see the story, but 100% this have to be about that day. LSU went to Omaha in 1986 and 1987, but it was 1989 that really cemented LSU as a constant threat to win it all.

LSU lost Game 2 of the regional, and was in the loser's bracket. By the time they faced A&M in the Finals, we had to beat them twice. Considering that A&M was something like 54-5, and had only lost 1 game at home all year (I think), the chances for the Tigers didn't look good. Of course, we had Skip Bertman and Ben McDonald, and they didn't.

that A&M team was by far the best team in the country heading into that Sunday. They were 58-5 at the start of the day and had been #1 since early in the season.

it's still to this day a black day for diehard A&M fans. I have an aggie friend who recalls the date "May 27, 1989.... sigh." every time we get on the topic of A&M-LSU baseball.

Listened to that game on the radio in my apartment in Oakbrook. Still get chills thinking about it.

Pat Garrity! Still remember listening to that on the radio and gets me excited about the beginnings of the monster that Bertman built.

No TV back then, I remember late in the night listening on radio to that game. Hawthorne actually made that one pretty memorable.

I want to say A&M started that season like 40-1 or something. Great story from Randy Davis about how Skip told the team the night before that all we had to do was beat A&M once, because then all the pressure would be on them.

Anybody got a link on this? I was listening to Moscona talk about it yesterday and I wanted to watch it.
