Experiences with USB2 modification on Ford's Sync system?

Apparently it's very easy to run a second USB cord from the back of the Sync system directly to the glovebox (for iPods, etc..). All it takes is an adapter and a USB cord. Walmart and radio shack didn't have the adapter I needed, so I just ordered this adapter from amazon. Have any OBer's done this to their truck? The reviews I've read have been positive, but I just want to make sure I'm not going to fry my sound system by doing this.

Why would you want to do that? Can't you just play by the USB that is already there or use Bluetooth?

I did it to my 2010
Super easy
My 2013 has 2 usbs in the console so no need

I'm not sure that adapter will fit in the sync module easily
I had one cable that was male mini USB on one end and female USB on the other
I just put a jump drive into the female USB and kept it in the glove box
Eta: this is what you need but longer to reach the glovebox

Yeah thats the exact cord I need. Do you remember where you found that? I would rather just run one cord than use adapters

eBay is where I got it
I found that pic on eBay but I didn't look hard for a longer one

Just use what you ordered with a mini USB extension cable
You don't want adapters behind the dash just in case something wiggles loose
Do you have the nav or no nav?

Thanks. I don't know why I didn't think to look for that specific cord in the first place.

Yeah, that would work also.

I read about the mod on a forum and they had a seller on eBay listed and that's how I easily found it but that was 3 years ago
Eta:
I had the nav too, it's easy to get to the plug, just unscrew the dash speaker and lift up and it's right there

That's how I found that adapter. A guy posted pictures of each step and a link to that adapter. I guess I'll wait until it comes in, and if it doesn't work I'll look for that cord
