Would have to disagree with you on both taco de paco and curbside. And both seem to be doing fine without your support.

But that's the great thing about capitalism and consumer choice right? Take note, New Orleans.

How many food trucks does BR have? I think we have plenty here in NOLA and don't think we could support many more.

OK?

Doing fine doesnt mean that taco de paco isn't putting out sub par products

Good question. Seems like there are around 15-20 in BR, but also depends on what you call a "food truck" (if that includes the lunch trailers that are mostly downtown during the week).

I think NOLA would benefit from some more quick-service options pumping out quality food like TL and La Cocinita do. I don't think it could handle hundreds more... maybe another dozen or two.

Just saying I disagree with your opinion, and others seem to as well.

We have a decent amount of trucks IMO. Like I mentioned earlier I wished they traded their normal spots with other trucks every now and then. I only frequent the trucks in my area and miss out on the trucks in other neighborhoods. If I drive to the Bywater to eat its not gonna be from a truck.

Ok

Food Truck war is over??

Looks like a unanimous decision by the much maligned(usually warranted) city council.

I have to sympathize with the restaurants. The cost of setting up a brick & mortar restaurant in NO is unreal and the competition is fierce. The restaurants are the backbone behind the city's renaissance, they have a lot of clout and they should, if they had not spent fortunes rebuilding the city would be years behind where it is.

Protecting that investment from some guy with a fraction of the commitment is very reasonable. What may seem a 'right' to a consumer has another viewpoint.
The only thing the food trucks compete with is fast food places.

Do you really think people say "What do you think for dinner tonight, Commander's or food truck?"

I had a great boudin on a biscuit from Foodie Call outside of The Rusty Nail.

Well those are two extremes but I can tell you I have food trucks as an option along with neighborhood spots. Just this past week I flipped a coin to decide if I was going to the TL truck or Magasin. Magasin won the coin toss.

Somehow, I think brick and mortar restaurants will survive. JMO.

Especially since it's hot as frick outside. I'm not usually looking to grab some food and eat on a sweltering curb.

In return for a $400 annual permit, food trucks would be allowed automatically to operate on the streets in most areas of the city zoned for commercial, industrial or mixed use. Owners also would be able to buy franchises to operate at specific sites and times on streets in other areas including the Central Business District, Faubourg Marigny, residential neighborhoods and along several business corridors such as Maple Street, Oak Street, St. Bernard Avenue, Elysian Fields Avenue and Franklin Avenue.

So the city is basically charging rent for hot spots around town? I think this is a great idea. Maybe a few more potholes will get fixed now.

Love the people who are against food trucks for "sanitary" reasons.

I can guarantee you that the food truck gets inspected more than a BM. Food trucks are fairly new, and have the stigma of "roach coach" that they are subject to random inspections by the health board.

Those trucks are usually cleaner and follow more safety codes than the BMs.

BM, unless they have a critical violation, only get checked about every two years. A critical violation warrants a second check after a month or two to see if the violation has been corrected. So if a restaurant is getting inspected all the time, do not eat there.

First time I've seen this thread. But it is kinda confusing. Didn't we already have about 5 food trucks before it was even recently legal?
