Cruise would produce along with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, which produced the last two films. Deadline Hollywood broke the news.

Paramount and Skydance have not set a writer, director or start date yet. The last installment, “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” was helmed by Brad Bird with Jeremy Renner and Paul Patton joining Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, in the film.

No plot details have been revealed.

Fourth was easily the best since the first, so hopefully they keep that team intact.

So what's the point of Renner if Cruise is still on board? They should kill one of them off.

Who knows what Renner's circumstances are now. Maybe he's too busy with other projects to be the lead in a Mission Impossible film.

Or, maybe the studio isn't ready to give it to someone else yet. The last Mission Impossible was a huge success, so Cruise is probably their best option.

Maybe there was never a deal in place to have Renner take over? It could be a number of things.

Also if Ethan Hunts character would have been played but anyone other than Cruise like a Leo or JGL, everyone would have loved this movie.

they are very well made and Abrams has stepped it up
