Cooking class in cozumel

We are going on a cruise next week to cozumel and progresso. We really wanted an excursion teaching us how to make authentic mexican food. The only one that we see is for salsa. Do any of you know of any cooking classes in cozumel?

Eta : yes we are poor for cruising. Yes we know we will get stuck in the gulf.

If you have never been to Cozumel, don't waste your day cooking or learning to cook...

What would you recommend?

We love mexican food but neither of us cook it well at all. I would love a professional lesson about chile verde or chile rellanos (sp).

We are open to other experiences though. We will not be visiting the women and horses of mexico demonstration. Lol.

I did a class with Josephina...google her. It was really good. You pick out your dishes ahead of time from a list that she sends via email. When you arrive the group heads to the local market to pick out ingredients; then back to her house to cook. In addition to the main meal you learn to make a couple of salsas and a nice creamy guacamole. Also, you make tortillas from scratch. There is a little drinking involved too!

I've been to Cozumel twice through cruises. The first time the wife and I went kayaking and snorkeling which was great, especially the latter. Second time we opted to go to an all-inclusive (food and drinks) island for a few hours. However, one couple who we ate with did the Salsa and Salsa tour and they did it was excellent for what its worth.

Cozumel, dive, dive, dive.

Food, not so sure, it´s probably evolved much since I´ve been there ( mid 90´s).

Rent a Jeep and go to Rastas. Maybe they'll give you some lessons on the hot plate.

Ask yourself this question before signing up for the class. Exactly how much Mexican cooking techniques will you garner from that class? Google search for Cocina Mexicana, a websie for affficianados of Mexican to get lessons on the how to and don'ts of cooking the cuisine. One other source is P'man although he hasn't been seen lately.
