How long do I have to forward previous owner's mail?

I bought this house a year and 2 months ago and I'm still getting their mail. I have been writing "no longer at this address" on everything. I get something for them at least once a week.

I do not have their new address or their phone number. How long am I responsible for forwarding their mail before I can just toss it? Is there anything else I can do? Contact the post office, maybe?

It's not just birthday cards either. I receive their bank and credit card statements. Today I receive an IRA statement. How can these people go a year plus without updating this crap?

Thanks

I threw all that shite in the garbage from day one.

Although, the two previous owners were deceased...but still.

same here. I did tear stuff before throwing it out. But how hard is it to make a list of creditors and different things and as you change them check them off. If it's important enough the previous owner's will contact the bank, etc and deal with their shite.

I've been in my house for a little over two years now and still get the some of the old owners mail. I used to give it back to the postal deliverer but now unless it looks important it's trash.

That explains that.

I would bring their mail to the PO and tell them don't reside there any longer.

It's been over a year, you did your part. I'd forward all upcoming mail to the garbage company and let them handle it.

1. Open a credit card in their name.
2. Profit.

Three years later, I'm still getting shite. If it looks important I write Return to Sender on it and put it back in the mailbox, otherwise it is in the trash.

Most of the important stuff is collections since the previous owner went through foreclosure.

After about 2 weeks I just put it all in the trash.

If it is just 1 or 2 banks I would call them and explain that the previous owner moved. They might like to know that. If it is more than that keep writing "Return to Sender, No Such Addressee" and sticking it back in the box. Eventually it will stop.

Of course, knowing some of our great financial institutions, they will probably send a letter to your house addressed to the prior owner that someone is returning their mail and telling the bank that they moved.

Over 4 years and I still get the previous owners mail about once a week.

We shred and toss now, unless it looks like something important, in which case we leave it out for the mail carrier.

After the previous owner moved out, we got continued to get the paper delivered to us every day. We didn't say anything because we assumed it would change over eventually.
It came for three years before, I assume, he realized he was paying for a paper that he wasn't getting.

I've been in my house for 5 years and I still get mail. They must have skipped out on their taxes or something because the sheriff's office shows up at least one a year. Once they see me open the door they know they have the wrong person since they are looking for a Abu Nepal character and I'm not Indian.

i've lived in my new house for about a year now and the previous owners still get packages delivered there from time to time.

Have them all piled up in a closet, im not going out of my way to make sure you get your mail if you to lazy to make sure its being sent to the right address.
