Al Pacino Quits Despicable Me 2

quote:

Who knew voicing an animated character could be so dramatic? Al Pacino has officially dropped out of Despicable Me 2 over "creative differences," for whatever that's worth.

So who's stepping in to voice the film's villain, Eduardo? Deadline reports that Benjamin Bratt has signed on to the sequel. As far as we know, the Universal/Illumination project is still on track for a July 3, 2013 release.

Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin are directing the film from a script by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy are producing.

sounds like they probably wanted him to actually attempt to act instead of just yelling his lines out like he normally does.

Would be funny if they just hire someone that can do a great a Pacino impersonation and have them talk in that voice for his character.

Me thinks they don't want to pay him enough.

I could handle Frank Caliendo doing this. Or have Jamie Kennedy do his really bad Andrew Dice Clay impression.

I wish they'd get a good voice actor like Maurice LaMarche or Billy West or whoever to do this instead. I guess they need big names to get people to watch but is Benjamin Bratt's name really going to draw anybody into theaters?

WOW. The one thing I actually thought Al Pal could do the rest of his life without fricking up, would be to yell shite on a microphone for cartoons and animation type shite.

He's always had a very cartoonish bad guy voice. Now he's fricking that up too

I think it hurts me worse to see Al Pacino living past his prime more than just about any actor, ever.

I can do an awesome Al Pacino yelling "Give me all got! Give me all you got!" Like he did at Albert Torena in Heat.

Jamie Foxx can do a good Pacino too.

Seriously. Pixar starts recording their's years and years in advance. Makes for a better animation since if you look at their recordings, then you can animate that reaction if its particularly good. That's actually very disappointing since I figured that is typically what good production studios do right after writing and storyboarding. Kinda makes me think they're just mailing this one in and not giving a shite to make as much money as possible.

Honestly, Frank Caliendo should do alot more voice work. He would probably be alot more rich if he tried to concentrate his career in voice acting.

agreed. There are a lot more people who have terrific voices and are what I'd consider the epitome of an animated voice. They'd be legendary and a lot more successful financially if they'd just settle for that. Caliendo comes to mind when I think about this for sure.

and to kind of fall along these lines, I was watching the A-team (movie) on FX again the other day and noticed the bad guy "Pike" played by Brian Bloom. I remembered his face because he was in "Once Upon a Time in America" in 1984 and he has one of those faces that's the exact same when he's 50 as it was when he was 10. Anyway, I IMDB'd him to see where the frick he'd been for the past 30 years and he's straight made a living on doing video game voices. Period.

ETA: and it's a voice that everyone knows. I mean if you've played pretty much any game in the past decade, there's a 200% chance you've heard his voice a million times.
