I've boiled crawfish 1000's of times but never crabs.

Tell me about boil/soak time.

What about seasonings?...same amount as crawfish???

Going on memory here...I bring them to a boil, go for 5 minutes...cut the heat and begin to taste after 20 to 25 minutes.

Chill them before you drop them to keep the claws on.

I pull one out and eat a claw. I'f it's good, I eat the crab. If it needs more soak time, I throw the one armed crab back in the pot.

That basically steals a claw from one of your guests. Last thing I want to go to is a crab boil where all the claws are missing.

Taste it. The meat in the legs is awesome. It's not much, but it is sin to throw them away without cracking them and squeezing that meat out.

If you came to my crab boil and bitched over a crab missing a leg, I might try to stuff your arse in the pot with the next batch.

If you tried to stuff TB in a pot, you'd have a problem with me too.

I think he was referring to tasting the insides. You can't really know until you open one up. Soak time depends on fullness of crab. As a general rule, I treat them like crawfish. boil till they float. soak till they sink

Flicking your finger on the bottom to hear if they're full of liquid is a good way to get a feel for how they're soaking.

Ice them down before I boil them
Boil for 5 minutes
Soak until seasoned right(20mins to 1 hour)

Sounds simple enough
