Future Breeding of My Dog

I'm thinking about buying a female dog which among other things would be to breed my male. Countless people have told me that they would like a puppy off of him if I did ever breed him. My question is has anybody ever breed a dog they have thinking that they would immediately be able to get rid of the pups and gotten stuck with them? My biggest fear is that I would have 10 fricken yappin arse puppies I couldn't get rid of. Another question is do people automatically assume that if they know you your puppies wouldn't be as good something they could buy somewhere else? I know of a highly prized dog that was caught up in this situation.

YES! The market is currently FLOODED with Good and GREAT puppies. I last bred my female a few years back and managed to sell all of the puppies however she had a GRHRCH and MH on her and she was bred to an FC/AFC stud. The puppies were $750 and sold all of them. I know of SEVERAL people that have been stuck with puppies and had to give them away at a song to get rid of them. My advice if you can't presell 6 then you won't be able to sell them. It's fun but a LOT of work and effort to get stuck with them. With no titles on your do you will be stuck with the "newspaper" market as no one in the hunt test/field trial game will want them.

I bred my labs for a while, some litters sold really quick and others seemed to no sell well at all. It is a lot of work.

The work and upkeep on large breed puppies goes up exponentially at 4 weeks of age. At 6 weeks they needed to all go and quick...

I did the same thing you are thinking. I have a male beagle that everyone wanted puppies off of. So, I found a female I liked and bred them, i also wanted one or two to keep for myself. After the puppies got here and were ready nobody wanted shite. I heard all kinds of excuses. My advice to you is Don't do it. Raise them only if you want to keep ALL of them, then try and sell some of them on the side, is the best advice I can give. Otherwise just offer your dog as a stud and keep a puppy as a stud fee.
