Looking to buy a gun that I would keep in my truck/house for self defense. From a bit of research I'm looking for something like a springfield XD40 or something along those lines but need some advice here. Any suggestions?

Outdoor board. But with the price of ammo id consider 9mm. I have the Springfield XDM 9mm and I love it fwiw

A 9mm self defense round will get the job done just fine. Also for home defense I'd strongly recommend considering a tactical shotgun. Or as my grandfather calls them, trench clearers

Thanks, and yes I know there is an outdoor board but at this time of night there is not much traffic over there.

if you have to have an answer right now about what gun to buy without waiting for an expert answer, you don't deserve to own a gun

They are no longer being produced but I bought a good bit about a year ago at a gun show. Expansion rounds are still readily available they just aren't black.

have owned a couple of 38s that have treated me well but if I had to get another I would go with a 9.

Kept my friends Beretta for a couple of years, those are sweet.

Isn't 9mm more expensive than .40 & 45acp right now??

Go with the Springfield 45 (full size)

Why go with a 9 or 40 when you can get a 45?
