Whistleblower has already testified

"In February the regional security officer in Tripoli, Eric Nordstrom, warned that having just two diplomatic security agents on the ground in Benghazi meant that movements outside the consulate were impossible.

"I've been placed in a difficult spot when the ambassador tells me I need to support Benghazi," Nordstrom wrote February 12 in an e-mail to James P. Bacigalupo, regional director of the Near East Affairs Department.

Last week in testimony before the House Oversight Committee, Nordstrom referred to a phone conversation -- also in February -- in which he was apparently talking with Bacigalupo.

"I said, 'Jim, you know what makes it most frustrating about this assignment? It's not the hardship, it's not the gunfire, it's not the threats; it's dealing with and fighting against the people and programs who are supposed to be supporting me.

"And for me the Taliban is on the inside of the building," he added.

In a separate memo earlier in February, Nordstrom had warned that "al Qaeda-affiliated groups, including al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and other violent extremist groups are likely to take advantage of the ongoing political turmoil in Libya."

Anybody have any news on what this whistleblower will add to his previous testimony before Congress? Or is this a different committee that is holding a hearing?

The tells you all you need to know. The only question: is the Obama admin/state dept. incompetent or intentionally negligent?

re: Whistleblower has already testified

I recall a lady from the State Department testifying that she received the cables (emails) from Nordstrom and Stevens and turned down the requests for security personnel and an excape aircraft because of budget reasons. Also, neither Nordstrom nor Stevens were based in Benghazi.

The State Department was demanding that the fragile Libyan government provide security personnel for the consulate.

Why Stevens was in Benghazi with little support, a inept Libyan government, the Red Cross having trouble, and to meet with Turkey officials is the mystery.

He was much loved, as per the Youtube video when the townsfolk carried him to the hospital where he died.

It's the same committee Nordstrom gave testimony to last October - the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.

Thompson and Hicks are the two key witnesses - both have self-identified as whistleblowers. Nordstrom will be there to provide credence to their statements and to provide background and perspective via re-assertion of the information he provided in October. The three testimonies will be an example of a sum being greater than its parts, i.e., they will interlock.

When Nordstrom testified the first time, he was walking on egg shells and knew others testifying at that time were part of a concerted effort to minimize and trivialize his testimony. This time around, he will not be under their thumb, nor anyone else's in the government.

Understand that these testimonies will only be the tip of the iceberg. The ultimate goal of the Committee leadership is to show the many other whistleblowers remaining in the shadows that it's safe to come out now. Once they see these higher level guys this week break ranks and open Pandora's box, it's widely believed they will find strength in numbers and line up to testify.

The other goal here is to get enough information out to pressure the Senate to hold similar new hearings. The Dems are resisting there, naturally, but if the House can blow things up, the Senate will be forced to cooperate, especially with so many Dem. Senate seats at stake in 2014. Any appearance of cover-up will not sit well in an off-year election.

Nordstrom's testimony, even if little of it is "new", will serve as the glue that ties the testimonies of Thompson and Hicks together. I suspect he will also be emboldened by having allies and he will be more assertive and aggressive in his statements this week.

Thanks for the reply. Nordstrom was the security chief sitting in Tripoli.

Where were the other 2 stationed during the attack?
