I was trying to remember a BJ song from my childhood but couldn't remember the name of the song but knew a lyric and found the song on YouTube (The Downeaster Alexa). GREAT SONG!!! I got on a kick and was on YouTube for a while. He really is an amazing songwriter.

He was absolutely amazing at Jazz Fest last weekend. One of the greatest songwriters and performers of all-time.

The Entertainer, New York State of Mind & Captain jack are his 3 best IMO

Those were great songs but I think so many rock purists write off all his non 70s music so he gets pigeon holed as being a has been which is kinda my point. So many people seem to write off a lot of very good music the great musicians of the 60s and 70s did in the 80s and early 90s for some reason. Billy Joel is a perfect example of this.

Can't frickin believe I left that one out. I deserve a for that omission.

I was a huge Billy Joel fan, but his music hasn't aged well outside of his early stuff.

Explain how his non 70s music hasn't aged well. I thought he had some fantastic stuff throughout the 80s all the way through the "Storm Front" album in 1990.

Didn't love as much of his post 70s stuff-though there were some gems, but I honor that sumbitch's devotion to his chops. He takes pride in kicking a$$ to this day, probably a Bronx thing.

"Don't Ask Me Why" is definitely his best song.

Movin Out is a great song. I also have been on a a Billy Joel kick for the last month.

Dude married Christie Brinkley. He was doing something right.

Another GREAT GREAT song I forgot about which proves my point. There are very few solo artists with as good a run as BJ had from 1970 thru 1992.

Well, gotta throw this in since it could not only make a booty mixtape, but has an all-time Rhodes track w/NYC all over it (very Richard Tee), and likely helped him land that premium tail.

Another excellent song which further validates his 70s/very early 80s song writing greatness.
I must admit that I have a fondness for his 80s and early 90s songs because they encompass all my childhood and adolescence. I graduated high school in 1993 and loved his songs that were popular when I was growing up which is why I appreciate his later music more than others do.

He's talented, but I wouldn't call myself a fan.
Piano Man, though, is a song that will remain awesome in perpetuity.

Doesn't mean a damn thing. Rod Stewart married Rachel Hunter. Doesn't make him not suck.

Don't knock Rod Stewart. He was a respectable solo artist as well although nowhere near Billy Joel's level.
