What is the board's take on this? I know it got panned by a lot of people not liking the meshed styles of Kubrick and Spielberg but I really liked it. It was a little long but still enjoyable. Gigalo Joe and Teddy .

I thought the movie was terrible. One of the worst I have ever seen.

This, but it's been ~10 years since I've seen it, so I'll give it another go sometime.

It's a movie where you can tell Spielberg had no frickign clue where he was going with it (as evidenced by the ending). Same with Munich

Disagree. Its a futuristic Pinocchio. Same exact story, same themes, some same scenes even. He got his point across pretty clear.

Based on the fact that the made me want to shoot myself in the head, I have to vote it as one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

This movie was way too heavy for me when I saw it as a kid.

May be a bit of a stretch. Try Adam's Family Values.

If it had ended with him rusting for eternity at the bottom of the water, I think it would have been brilliant and one of Speiberg's boldest films ever. But he had to Speiberg it up.

Thought it was a pretty decent movie 5/10 as a whole 6.5/10 solely by genre

I think the ending is way darker than those critical of it realize. In the end, David was a limited being, and his desires were limited as well. That he was forfilled by just a shadow of reality shows his flaws, and makes him pitiable. (A glimpse into how distorted David's simple desires were can be seen in his anger and violence at seeing another like him.)
In the end AI wasn't a cushy story about love, it showed the flaws and near sidedness of worshipping and harvesting only one aspect of the human experience. It doesn't make for a complete enviable tale, even if that aspect of humanity is perhaps our greatest expression in parent-child love.

For what it's worth, Kubrick was the one who wrote the futuristic ending for the movie (granted, Spielberg says he would have chosen it anyway, but I imagine it's difficult for a director like Spielberg to admit the flaws in his own movies):
