An argument could be made that PP7 has had a great deal of success in his 2 years. 2 Pro Bowls and an All-Pro selection.

I couldn't agree more. First LSU man with an NC and a Super Bowl ring.

He shouldn't have made the LSU practice squad, he's not a QB

Tittle was 7 times all pro and NFL MVP 61-63.
No other player can say that.

Johnny Robinson was a great pro must be some afl bias for him not to be in hof

Marshall also is undervalued he killed Montana in a playoff gm

Bert jones has a great season and good start to career before injury

Leonard Marshall easily belongs in the Top 10 productive NFL players who prepped at LSU. Had a storied career with the Giants and won 2 Super Bowls like Faulk.

Leonard Marshall rarely is mentioned on this site for some reason. Joe Montana remembers him at least.

Leonard was a beat. I wonder what he's doing these days? I doubt he's moved back to Franklin.

I haven't updated this stuff in a while, but just going my memory from some of my older posts ( LINK), fwiw these are the LSU players with the most years in the pros:

quote:

LSU Football Players
(Most Pro Seasons with NFL/AFL Teams)
1. Y.A. Tittle, 17* (1948-64)
2. Kevin Mawae, 16 (1994-2009)
3. Roy Winston, 15 (1962-76)
4. Todd McClure, 14 (1999-2012)
4. Brian Kinchen, 14 (1988-2000, 2003)
4. Henry Thomas, 14 (1987-2000)
4. Eugene Daniel, Jr., 14 (1984-1997)
8. Kevin Faulk, 13 (1999-2011)
8. Alan Faneca, 13 (1998-2010)
8. Eddie Kennison, 13 (1996-2008)
8. Dan Alexander, 13 (1977-89)
12. Greg Jackson, 12 (1989-2000)
12. Lance Smith, 12 (1985-96)
12. Leonard Marshall, 12 (1983-94)
12. Johnny Robinson, 12 (1960-71)

* -- includes 2 years in AAFC with Baltimore Colts in 1948 & 1949

BTW, Leonard Marshall was named the NFL's "Defensive Lineman of the Year" 2 years in a row in 1985 & 1986, making him a more decorated pro player as a D-lineman than Henry Thomas or Anthony McFarland (or Ronnie Estay, who went to the CFL).

He's been involved in some high school coaching and is now an Adjunct Sports Management Professor at Seton Hall University in Northern New Jersey. Also looks like he's bounce around between residences in New Jersey and S. Florida in his post NFL career. It looks like he's kept a little cleaner path than his teammate LT.

Faneca was the best OL in the game for years and is a 10+ year probowler I believe.
This is the first name I thought of. I don't know how many OL get into the HoF or if it's a Heisman-like "skill positions only" type of deal, but he definitely has the resume for it.

You could also look at Kevin Faulk with 3 Super Bowl rings, though he was hardly an MVP on any of those teams. Played well and played a lot for many, many years, though. And he does have the hardware. Kind of depends on how you define "success".

Of course Tittle, Taylor and Van Buren have to be in the conversation.

Is success in the NFL not measured by rings?
No.

This is a rhetorical question.

It should be, because only an idiot would rate Chris Redman (1 Super Bowl ring) as more successful than Dan Marino (0 Super Bowl rings).

I go with Taylor. The only man to win a rushing title over Jim Brown.
