The 25th ranked kicker in the league is irreplacable, there's no new guy out there that needs a chance that is better than him. We must live forever with the 25th ranked kicker for it is our organization's destiny to be ranked in the 20's in the kicking department because hey, lets face all the good ones are elsewhere and there are no diamonds to be found.

Dude is young and already had hip surgery. That's a red flag right there. I hope he has his medical alert device on the chain around his neck so when he falls and can't get up, the EMS people can show up and help him with a field goal.

First that tells me 3 of those guys don't have enough years to judge how good they are(not saying they are bad, but 1 or 2 years is nothing for an NFL kicker; guys have flamed quickly after looking bright before).
Second, in 17 years that's only 10 guys. As I said, 3 of them are too early to call.
Like I said, you don't find UDFA kickers that are good too often. Looks like 3 teams the last 2 years may have lucked out, but it was after a 6 year drought.
Just gonna say good luck with that.
I discounted the 3 that had 2years or less (dan bailey, tucker, and forbath) as to why I noted their years played. out of the rest, nick novak was the lone person with a lower 40yard percentage.
There's obviously more UDFA's, but I didn't want to spend the time to look at them. here's another common name you know of
Connor Barth - 92.9% from under 40 (84.2% career)
most of them are better than him from under 40. I don't see how hard it is to at least TRY to replace him. he's in his "20s" in ranking, outside of year 1 which he was perfect. There are a good bit of UDFA's in the NFL when it comes to kickers.
Trend seems to be most UDFA that are playing now get around the same career %, but better under 40. I think I'd feel safer having to depend on a kicker that hits under 40 90% of the time and the long kicks not as high of a % compared to a guy like hartley who makes me cringe everytime he goes for a FG under 40, but smokes most of the 40+

Just gonna put this right here:

Is there really a 6 page thread over a place-kicker?
Isn't the rule: If your kicker is reliable, you keep him. If he's not reliable, cut him, & keep cutting until you find a reliable one.
No Saints thread should have 6 pages of passion invested in dime-a-dozen Garrett Hartley.

Hartley's got no heart.

I never said not to try. I just said it's not going to be easy. If someone comes in and is money in preseason great. Young, cheap replacement.
But as I said, sure he's under 40 is lower than you'd like, but his over 40 is much better than most kickers and that's a pretty damn good thing to have. If he can become consistent on the short ones he'd be great. Will it happen? We'll have to wait and see.

Whatever, I'm not attached to him at all, but I will never forget what he did for this team in the Super Bowl season, especially the playoffs.
Posted on 5/3/13 at 11:43 am to bonethug0108
its not overly difficult if the organization attempts to do it.

he's still able to say he's 8/8 post season.

He was money in the Super Bowl. Straight money.
Posted on 5/3/13 at 2:43 pm to The Sad Banana
he was straight money in playoffs compared to someone like nate kaeding who's clutch as hell during regular season and career choker in the playoffs.
I just think we shouldn't be opposed to bringing someone else in.

This is retarded.

There's only so many ways you can say "Hartley's a head case. He's inconsistent!" and "No he's not. Look at these kicker stats," or so I thought.

After reading this it seems we now need four kickers to get the job done.
One for kick-offs
One for longer field goals.
One for shorter field goals and extra points.
And one for the playoffs.
Four kickers.
Get it done Loomis!

I know this was a joke but...
Maybe we teach Morstead to kick short field goals?

I was thinking the same thing. Truthfully, I'm willing to bet that a change at kicker is not at the top of the staff's priority list.

Maybe they can get Morten Andersen out of retirement.

I'm sure the dude is on so many medications for arthritis that he would bomb the first drug test, and every drug test after.
