Hakeem was the first, and probably still the only center ever, who could face up a big man and cross him up like a guard 20 ft from the basket.

Whether hes the best center ever is debateble. But to me, he is without question the most versatile, offensively skilled center ever. Dude was sensational

Mad? I was born in Houston and pulled hard for those Hakeem-lead teams to win.

I was merely posing a simple question to hopefully spurn a discussion related to sports. Welcome to the More Sports Board. First time here?

I honestly don't know. But if my hypothetical happened (Thunder winning with LBJ out), I'm pretty sure I would feel weird about it.

Yeah he was unreal.

It's a shame we didn't get to see a Dream vs MJ matchup.

Was honestly just about to start a thread entitled "Will the 2013 Heat championship be tarnished?" considering every true contender has an injury other than the Clippers.

Damn, that's true.

How significant is his injury? Haven't been following it closely.

Not too sure, but he def wasn't himself last game, and didnt play much. If theres anybody in the league who needs his lower extremities to be healthy for him to be truly effective, its most certainly blake griffin

From the Chicago Tribune in 1993:

quote:
After all, the Bulls have lost six out of their last eight games against Houston and the last five at the Summit. And just in case anyone needs reminding, those losses were with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. So what would cause the Bulls' coach to be optimistic in light of not only those numbers, but also the fact that the 9-0 Rockets are the NBA's hottest team and the Bulls are struggling? The "one-upmanship" said Jackson, hurt the Bulls. "Michael (Jordan) usually got into it," he said, "and it was usually a Michael-(Hakeem) Olajuwon thing. (They came out in) the same draft year, both of them were MVP players and it basically got to a point where it was not the most successful place for him because Vernon Maxwell is a thorn in our side and it got to be one of those kind of games."

The early to mid 90s era Rockets did match up well against the Bulls due to pesky guards on defense (Maxwell & Elie) and the Bulls lack of a dominant presence down low to match up with Olajuwon.

I think 95 is hard to quantify. Grant had left to play for Orlando and Rodman was not a Bull yet. So any hypothetical discussions using the title teams as the opponent isnt accurate. Who knows if Krause and co would have ponied up the dough for Grant if Jordan was still around and they were coming off a 4th title (potentially). But without someone like those guys in there, they arent nearly as formidable as their two threepeat teams.

But either way, they arent "tarnished," although yeah, people will sometimes mention it was without Jordan to face. If anything tarnished either of them it is OJ Simpson.

Is the Braves' 1995 World Championship tarnished? It was during a strike-shortened season that was caused by Tom Glavine.

Of course the 2 championships were not tarnished. In fact they were some of the hardest fought playoffs i've seen a team go through. I recall that team being down so many times in series, and pulling out in the end to win.

However, against a Jordan led team? I don't think Houston would have been able to win. Those 2 Houston teams were great, but just looking at their records shows you they were not a match for the Bulls, especially if you look at the Bulls record after Jordan came back and had a full season.

I loved watching Hakeem and that team, but i do not think they would have beaten Jordan and the Bulls. Well, unless the Bulls were just not interested, as can happen, when you win 3 or 4 in a row.

However, to say their championships were tarnished is silly as they won and beat the competition they had.
