9 days from now I am going to POC TX to catch whatever is biting. Advice?

I will be fly fishing and/or spinning tackle fishing for tarpon on first two days.

The next three days we will be making day trips offshore, weather permitting, to follow shrimp boats and/or fish the rigs. Fall back plan will be fishing inshore and or crabbing if weather sucks.

Suggest species I should be targeting offshore or inshore, techniques, and bait choice.

I'm assuming you're going to meet up with a friend that has a set up down there?

I suggest yall go out to 300' of water (might be far from Texas coast) and try to hook up on some big AJ

Closer in and around shrimp boats you could load up on lemonfish/cobia/ling. Just pull up to a structure, beat on the side of the boat, throw the engines in reverse. Make a commotion. lemons are dumb and will come check out whats going on.. when he surfaces, throw EVERYTHING you have at him. Live bait, chum, artificial, toilet paper. You never know what he'll want to bite on

Port O'Connor?? Get ready for fat Specks, clear water and rocks (inshore). Never been offshore out of POC but I imagine it's full of AJ, kingfish, spanish mackerel, etc.

For tarpon yes I will be with a guy who has guided for years on his custom 25' boat.

For offshore we will be in a skeeter bayboat so gettting out to 300 ft deep may be an issue.

you serious about the banging on the boat Clark?

dead serious

I'll bang my tank on the platform underwater and you'll have them come to see what going on

most lemonfish are shot withing 20 seconds of hitting the water because they come investigate

POC is an outdoors paradise. Very easy to limit on Reds/Ducks during duck season. Pintails and redheads are THICK in that area.

I've got a guided trip scheduled there for the May 19 and I'm pumped about it.

I havent fished there in Spring/Summer transition but I hear the redfishing is GOOD and the flounder gigging is FAIR at this time.

What is your boat situation? Side note, I wasn't sure if there are tarpon in the area this early?

And if you do manage a lemonfish, don't gaff him when he is still green. He will destroy everything in the boat.

I can't give much advice other than drifting back lakes on S side of Espirito Santo and the Lagoon on the N side for Reds.

I'm hoping to learn some more about the trout with my guided trip.

Will you be providing updates while you are there?

A buddy of mine lost 2 rods and reels and damn near got knocked overboard thanks to a dumbass trying to be a hero and doing this. That jackass is no longer welcome.
