Guess that's what happens when the #1 overall recruit in the country gets outplayed by freshman during his junior and senior years.
Shep was never anywhere close to the #1 overall recruit

I feel bad for him. I wouldn't have known this was illegal. Eagles should have informed him about all this.

Better yet, keep your mouth shut and don't come across as a complete dumbass on local radio.

Heard it earlier. He laughs at Shep and says Eagles could lose future picks if true.

Don't the top players in the draft negotiate the terms of their contract before the draft starts? Maybe not as much with the rookie scale, but it definitely happened in previous years (see Eli Manning).

The agent probably told RS that he had a "done deal" with the Eagles. Shep probably thought that that meant he was signed and there was nothing wrong with saying so. Then when other teams called (why his agent wouldn't have taken over his cell phone for the day is beyond me) he said he was already committed to the Eagles.

Seems like a pretty simple misunderstanding and I am not sure why everyone would blame Shep for not knowing any technical draft rules (if there are any here) when he has an agent talking to a professional front office. Just player hate in my book.

He clearly didn't know what they did was wrong...I hate this for him. Hope he still has his spot.

Teams call likely UFA before the draft is over to gauge interest. The Eagles likely called Shep before the draft was over tell him they want to sign him as an UFA. Shep probably took that as he just signed with the Eagles and told that to other teams that were calling.

so either
1) shep is insanely stupid and has no idea how the simple process of the draft works
2) it was simply spin for not getting drafted and he a figured he could get away with it on a local show.

by the amount of bullshite he fired off throughout that interview I'm going with option #2

so instead of calling your new organization and asking questions, lets go on AFR and just spit out blatant lies and act flip about the situation. Because people never ever fact check statements anymore...

So guys really do turn down being drafted by a team and say "I've already signed with ______?"

I'm saying the teams convince the kids to sign as an UFA telling them they know they won't get drafted. Pray on their desperation.

I'm going with a combination of the 2. He said something stupid and then just bullshitted his way through the rest of the interview.

In fact I'm pretty sure Shep even tweeted during the draft that he was an Eagle. I stand behind my previous comment that he has no common sense.

He's just delusional in thinking people believe his shite anymore. I was a shep fan. I liked his attitude, his love of LSU, I thought if we could figure out ways to get him the ball in space he could be a weopon - hell I even had arguments with friends saying we never used him correctly since day 1. He had me fooled as well. But jan 9th when he started his shite about leaving early, and then after this season all of his #movingupthedraftboards bullshite - who out there believes it? I like players who have a firm grasp of reality and this dude just doesn't have it. He's not as talented as he was told he was and he can't admit that to himself. Its unthinkable to him that he wasn't drafted so he just tried to play off another lie on air and now it's going to bite him in the arse.

And yes, the TAMU love was fricked up.

Teams can call and say they're interested before the draft is over. I'm sure that's what happened with him but he's an idiot so he added more shite to the story.
