Long but good read
They did not use the new HD Rule in order to not to DQ him (i had been pretty outspoken that that rule did not apply here .. Pat on the back for threeputt)

So, they blamed it on the Masters, basically.
Not saying they're wrong, but just saying, that's what they did.

Basically hd rule did not apply here. Tiger fricked up .. Committee fricked up .. Usga says under extreme circumstances they are allowed to go back fix the problem and not dq player .. Basically CYA we dont want the masters pissed at us

It was a two part screw up. Tiger screwed up on the drop. Then the committee screwed up on giving him the all clear before he signed his card.
He technically should/could have been DQ'd because he signed an incorrect scorecard, but he followed the right protocol. He consulted the rules committee. They gave him the all clear. So he signed the card. It would have been pretty BS to give him the all clear then DQ him.

If the Committee had not reviewed his drop and given it the okay, he would have been.
They SHOULD have concluded Tiger made an illegal drop and told him about it before he signed his score card, he takes 8, and there isn't an issue.

It went more like this
Tiger takes drop
Caller calls in
Committee reviews it, sees no problem, they don't inform Tiger
He signs scorecard
Has interview which he admits guilt
Firestorm starts
Meets with Committee in the Morning
Takes 2 shot penalty as opposed to DQ

Good read. Here's the statement I take issue with:
There was nothing rare or exceptional about what happened at the Masters. It was a straightforward ruling that both Tiger and the rules committee fricked up.

Well I think it was rare in the fact that not only did the committee frick up, Tiger told on himself in an interview afterwards.

Yeah. Also, Tiger shouldn't have to make putts from 2 feet, those are gimmies. He won't miss those. Tiger also should get a free drop out of divots in the fairway. Come on, he hit the ball down the middle like your supposed to, he should get a good lie.
