Things were easier before Facebook, cellphones, twitter, and whatever else people use these days to relay news.

Just the way it is.

I didn't get in fights in college. Once, semi-working security, I got hit on the head with a beer bottle while kicking somebody out of a bar for fighting. There was an arrest.

This was the late 80s.

Football players got in fights at bars. They would gets dismissed, suspended or punished as the coach saw fit. Sometimes it made the news, sometimes not.

Difference now is social media. Not "media" media, but social media. Word's out within minutes, not days. There's no time for a coach or school to plead with media to sweep things under the rug or for the coach to call the cops and plead with them not to make these embarrassing things public.

Different time. Probably different for the better. Can't get away with being an arse-hole jock and, guess what? Most people weren't a-hole jocks, including most athletes.

UHTiger, well said!

No! But if you are going to talk shite to a football player, then you deserve to get your arse kick. Hill will get what he deserves, he will pay the price. Let's just hope he can still play for us after. He may be on probation so it is becoming a bigger deal, but he got in a fight outside of Reggie's. Have you been to tigerland???? Not a night goes by without SEVERAL fights! Most go unreported. This dude probably runs his mouth and gets in fights all the time, but is not use to getting his arse kicked so when he did the guy was embarrassed. I wish it wasn't Hill that did it, but if this dude is trying to start shite in Tigerland he deserved his arse kicking.

Actually, the media is less powerful.

Been happening all along. LSU and press used to do a better job of keeping things covered up. Can't speak for anything prior to the 1960's but there has been shite happening all the time at least since then (and probably before that). However, we did not have the press coverage and social media then that we do now. Things are to the point now that if you fart, it will make someone's commentary column.

When I was at LSU there were no bars. Tiger Land did not exist. Cheap beer did not exist. Sorority girls did not give out and frat boys were virgins when they married. We did not curse or drink or smoke much less think of fighting. We ate cucumber sandwiches and drank a lot of milk, and did not drink alcohol except on holidays and then only in the presence of our parents. Football players did not fight, and there were no race-based fights between athletes in Broussard Hall. We drove the speed limit. We went to every class.

I weep for our society today.

THIS.

It is college...one should use this time to learn something!!! If the above quote happens to describe "you" then learn not to mouth off to

abnormally physically gifted athletes

Also, learn during the daylight sober time that alcohol may make "you" feel invincible BUT that arse kicking is just reality letting "you" know that "you" are still just an average 20 year old

A shocking notion in our criminal justice system, but yes. A good system would be one where people more frequently got what they deserve.

The bright line division between physical violence and all other forms of aggression has been accorded far too much significance in our modern society. A simple punch or slap has caused far less harm and solved far more problems than many examples of derogatory or inflamatory speech. And yet, we continue to insist that any act of physical aggression is automatically more evil than any combination of verbal or other nonphysical behaviours. That's just stupid.

The so-called "fighting words" doctrine had more merit than it was credited with having when we did away with it. Our system needs more rational analysis and less arbitrary, unjustified distinctions.

Well, our rbs are built like lbs. An average 20 yr old male could prob beat up a lot of players. Think of the wrs and lil dbs. You think trindon wouldnt get knocked out?

Plus not sure one punch is beating some one up. Now the shadys incident is diff.

Thank God for that. Many young dumb asses like you have no point of reference and are usually vulgar and boring. The cow goes Moo Moo indeed.

Knowing now that Hill jacked some guy from behind (twice), I think he should be kicked off the team. This wasn't a fight, it was a jumping.

So cheap shotting a guy from behind was celebrated back in your day? Must have been a miserable place where you grew up.
