Keeping bass from a lake/pond

I know every single show on TV pushed catch and release of every bass, even for specs and reds.
Do you keep them?
What is the deciding factor on keeping?
How big a lake or pond would you keep them or throw them back?
I fish a pretty big lake that is probably 150ac total. Have kept a few 3-5 pounders here and there, but am thinking about to make it a policy to keep above a certain size. Don't know if I should take hawgs out of there, or just selectively take medium sized bass.
There are many, many > 5lb bass in this lake. I typically catch at least a 4 every time I spend longer than 15 minutes out

We do what the biologist says. Usually we keep everything under 14 inches on ponds.

If the lake has a healthy population, I keep everything over a pound (12") and under 3 pounds (17ish"). At my MIL's pond, it is so overpopulated that anything that bites (except for the big 7lb female) gets taken out.

No biologists there. It was a dammed up creek that spreads probably 6-9 neighborhoods

I should have said every pond is different. If you see a lot of skinny small bass keep those or throw them over the spillway.

Ponds need to have quite a few taken out every year. Lakes obviously dont have a problem getting fish removed.
Ive been taking pics of the bigger ones and letting them swim. Use to not keep fish too often but no more than I go now, I always keep a mess when I catch enough.

health of the lake tells you all you need to know..
one by our house lil choupique and pals can catch 60-80 bass in a few hours most under a pound.....
they routinely move bass out of there to nearby ponds and lakes... and the frying pan.

The lake is well established and hasn't had any problems since the neighborhoods were getting built 20yrs ago. The fish certainly aren't affected

My mom's pond was vastly overpopulated with bass years ago and we got it under control by keeping everything or throwing them on the bank. Took a couple of years of hard fishing to get it balanced and we took out thousands of bass. But it's a lot better now.

The best pond I've ever fished is a private pond in Mississippi. Catch 25-30 every time we go and have caught one over 6 the past 4 times we've gone. Owner required you put back anything from 2lbs to 4lbs. You can keep anything else if you wish. He has 3 other ponds on his place and that's the rule he has for all of them. I'd rather fish any of those 3 ponds than any other place in the world. We spend 2 days at their camp last May and caught 224 bass over 12 inches in those ponds so safe to say his plan works.

This. They'll do counts and age ranges to tell you what size and number to harvest.

If the pressure isn't bad, you should be keeping most of the little ones you catch, say 14" and below.
