Great. I've heard players don't really like all the early starts; but who knows. Anything to help the Cubs win more, I am all for it.

Sick of losing

Odd choice of words. He's leveraging a situation to get what he believes is best for the ball club (more money, nicer facilities, better start times for games). If that's whining, then I hope he keeps it up.

its the fact that he is claiming they need the revenue from them to compete so he can weasel out of a deal the team signed with the bars that have rooftop views of the stadium.

It's so he can spend 300 million dollars to renovate the stadium without using a dime of taxpayer money. He want's revenue streams to recoup that. Ask Miami how they'd feel about a compeltely owner financed stadium.

History. Its awesome to think of the greats that have been stood on that mound, batters box, and places around the field. Sitting behind the plate and seeing chicago. Sitting in bleachers that generations have sat in hoping this is the year. How many places do you know the streets? Sheffeld and waveland are staples themselves.
Knowing a window can be knocked out by a roided sammy sosa. Roof top shots by glenallen hill.

You can't replicate that. Its historythat makes baseball and to throw it away when you are alreadt making tons of komoney seems silly. Its been 5 years since I've been but it can't have aged terribly in that time since I've been. I've only been in the stadium 7 times but as I got older it got better everytime because I appreciated it even more.

You can make it more comfortable. But new places are always spaced out too much..to comfy, and crowd just never cares.
It would be like tearing down tiger stadium to me.

Once again...my gripe with him is about an outdated idea of over the top jumbo tron. The cubs have a chance to be innovative but he wants to waste money on something that I think is old idea and is barely catching up with everyone. Put nice screen somewhere , not to big, and do what msg does. From ur phone tablet whatever u can see every camera in the park

That'd be cool, but i think they're more likely to get the most adverstising money from an old fasion video board.

While i think fan experience stuff like you're talking about would be fantastic the board is all about generating ways for the owner to recoup the moeny he's willing to spend to renovate the statdium, adn while it's easy to say that's self serving there are places where concrete is falling and nets are used to hold it up. But i'm all for more stuff on the concourse for fans. wouldn't mind having a rat free bathroom too.

The memories aren't gone if you get a new stadium. Anybody cry rivers when the Astros moved out of the Astrodome? What bout when the Phillies got their new park? Or when San Fran left Candlestick? Or when the Mets got Citi Field? Or new Yankee Stadium? Or when the Cards got their new park?

Wrigley is a landmark. But things do get outdated. I'm not saying yeah, burn her down. I'm just saying clinging to ideas and memories and the actual park itself can be exclusive. You don't lose memories if you lose the park.

Since this is a Cubs thread, I wanted to put this here:
quote:

Alfonso Soriano is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Padres.

It's not injury-related, as he's just getting the day off. Julio Borbon will start in left field Wednesday while Anthony Rizzo will hit cleanup. Luis Valbuena is hitting third.

I'm kind of with you.

I've spent a whole lot of time (and even more money) in wrigley and i do love the place. But i'm a cubs fan, not a wrigley fan. If they moved to the north suburbs and had a huge spacious ball park with fan interactive stuff and lots of parking i wouldn't be less of a cubs fan. I'd get over it pretty quick.

I'd hope they took the old score board and put ivy on the wall though.

New yankee stadium has empty seats behind home plate in playoffs. Maybe not game 7...but def during some.

San fran made a better baseball park.thy did it perfect.
At least my friends that live up there in ny they say citi is nice but shea was terrible so thy were happy to get out of it
Phillies vet was terrible. The park before that I know te older fans loved it and hated to see it go.
Cards is nice

If I said memories will be gone I didnt mean to. I meant actually being there where all that stuff happen is special. Like I said you can clean it up...im not opposed to that.
I would be devastated if they said tiger stadium was being tore down and moved. Im sure they can rebuild it exactly somewhere...I just like walking into history. We can agree to disagree though

I honestly don't think Ricketts wants to move the location of the park, but if they did it wouldn't be a big deal to me. And IF they did, I would certainly be all for them recreating a lot of the charm of Wrigley Field, like the bleachers, the scoreboard, the marquee, the brick, the ivy, etc. It would be a great mix of old and new.

I see your point and I don't dismiss it, because it makes sense. But I think we can just agree to disagree.

oh no, it was a hollow threat, and one he didn't use when negotating with the people that mattered (mayor and alderman) this was just thrown out there becuase the deal will get done and it will get approved so now beth murphy can preach to all her drunkards at murphy's bar that they had to let it happen or the cubs were gone. He even backed off it immediately after saying it.
