It's Reed. No other player in LSU history could be trusted more to make a big play when he needed to make a big play... and follow through.

The guy was dead solid money on every snap.

Before Reed came along, the best WR to put on an LSU jersey was Wendell Davis. Hands like glue. Eric Martin is right behind him. The very portrait of dependability.

Before Landry's one-handed TD reception at Arkansas this season, I would have said that Reed's miraculous, levitating grab in the back of the Peach Bowl EZ was the single greatest catch I have ever witnessed.

Reed's destruction of Alabama was a thing of beauty. They knew the ball was going to number 25, but they simply could not cover him.

He may not be the most physically gifted receiver in LSU history, but he is certainly the most productive.

At LSU, he's right there. Bowe in NFL has potential to be a great pro.

Reed and Davis are interchangeable at 1 and 2. Martin comes in at #3.

I loved Carlos Carson as much is the next guy, but I think his legend far exceeds his actual playing ability.

We have been blessed with some great WR's, for me Martin was best overall and his NFL carrer is by far best of any others. However, Reed in college had the better 1.5 years of any and Davis hands were unreal. I also believe davis and martin were superior blockers to Reed, but again all three were great.

Carson's job was to be fast. He was that. His performance against Rice was awesome. But it was Rice.

Reed was my favorite. He caught everything. He also could make cuts like a running back because he was converted from that position.

According to this board, I thought a WR had to be over 6 ft. tall to be any good??? LOL.

My vote is for Reed also!

Going back and watching those highlight tapes it was just stupid how open Reed could get on defenses. Especially late in the year. It's like no one cared to cover him.

I remember sitting in the Auburn section at Tiger Stadium last SEC game of the year due to 911. I couldn't believe how open Reed seemed to be every time we needed a first down or big play. The Barner man in front of me finally turned around (after about the 6th-8th time I called #25 getting the ball here before the snap) and screamed like a man possessed "If you know he's getting the GD ball why the f**k can't someone tell tubberville??

One of my favorite all time games at Tiger Stadium to this day. I was also amazed at the Sugar Bowl that year that none of the Illinois fans had a clue who Reed was or what him and Rohan had in store for them. Reed was truly an artist in the slot!

Where do you guys think Josh Reed stands in the ranking of LSU's receivers? Best of all time? Or pretty close to the top?

Top. Only LSU winner of the Belitnikof Award. It takes a lot to win that one.

I remember a game that year I think was against Bama where LSU was in need of a late drive/score and everyone knew JR was the go to guy. I think he caught like 7 passes on that drive. The defense could not stop him even though they were looking for him every play.

Yeh... that catch in the peach bowl was sick. got like a toe in on the goal line.
I had the great pleasure to watch Reed play in high school on a weekly basis. The kid was sick at running back. Poor Rayne faced the A-train in Winnfield and then evangel in the playoffs 2 years in a row to go to Semis i think. Those were Booty days and evangel was crazy good. Good guy too....
Clayton used to lay the wood on people though.... closest WR we have now to that seems to Jarvis Landry.

I would say Josh Reed as well. Bama game was epic.

Best blocker by far was Michael Clayton. It seemed like every long run we had, Clayton was tangled up with a DB. He didn't just hit hard but he also stayed with his block longer than any WR I've ever seen. (J Landry is a mini Clayton)

Other modern era WRs: Wendell Davis, Eric Martin, Early Doucet.

Cholly Mac era: Andy Hamilton, Tommy Morel, Gerald Kiegley

Legends era: Ken Kavanaugh Sr

Josh Reed just could not be covered. Shame he ended up in Buffalo and not somewhere that could have used him in the slot, he could have been Wes Welker before there was a Wes Welker.
