Not only that, by doing it while not on a team, he has no team members, coaches, organization, or fans to "let down" or whatever word you want to use for the attention that would bring upon all of those people.

Like I said, he'd get bashed at any point if he did it.

ANd his career doesn't look like it's over, i think most hardcore fans are under the assumption he'd be around next year.

he would probably be out of the NBA by next year anyway

7 foot dudes willing to play his role for pennies on the dollar don't come around very often.

He'd find a home.

So he should live his life according to how YOU want him to.

Gotcha.

It's a perfect storm for him.

He's not attention whoring and this isn't fake in any way.
It's not fake. But the timing was very well calculated. The right thing would be to do this much earlier in your career or right after you retire. Not right when a contract runs out and it looks like your time in the NBA is up but you "hope you get another contract".

Well he's only signing one year contracts. So I'm not sure when he could do it to satisfy you. He said on the podcast with Simmons that he was still lying to himself at least until 2009 when he broke off his engagement. He continued to add that he decided he would come out to last Summer during the lock out, and told all his family. He eventually signed a contract with the Celtics so he decided to hold off making it public knowledge.

Again. I don't really know what you want from him. Or anyone under those circumstances.

I think it's exactly what it is. Obama seemed to have a statement prepared the minute it came out. The whole thing is fricking disgusting.

No. But it was a story constructed by the media to push an agenda. Not saying the dude is not gay. But they built the whole thing up. I'm pretty sure that the government (Obama) knew about the deal before it broke.

And you know this from your experience as a gay athlete, right?

I have a lot of gay friends. Each of them came out at different points in their lives. One of them is in his forties now and only like two years ago came out to his family. It's different for everyone.

About a decade ago a team mate of mine came out to a few of us. We were all cool about it. A little later he accidentally outted himself to the rest of the team. That didn't go too well because our society was much less tolerant back then. About a decade ago was the start of Jason Collins's career, which is when you propose that he should have come out.

There is a reason that it is verboten to out someone else. They have to do it on their terms at their time.

Who is the "media" in this case?

This story was written and reported by SI.

In your mind do you imagine the heads of ESPN, SI Etc on a conference call with someone in the White House?

It takes like 30 seconds to compose a statement and another 30 to make a phone call.

You're really reaching.

As someone else said, Collins's coming out is bringing out the tard in a lot of people.

We'll see. If there isn't some blown up controversy in the next few months over nobody signing him then I'll say I was way off.
