Are you saying they didn't ask for the ransom to be paid in bitcoins? Interesting.....

Why would one retailer's service being interrupted cause such a drastic drop in price for btc?

Don't all of those thousands of other businesses which you claim accept btc carry any weight in the bitcoin criminal......er, uh.......user community?

BTW, btc dropped to $94 a few minutes ago.

ETA: Now $91.

Yea, it's being DDOS'ed because they refused to pay a $5000 ransom

I'm telling you, regardless of what happens to bitcoin, this saga is going to become one of the greatest "based on a true story" movies of all time.

So the system you claim can provide absolute anonymity to Bitcoin users cannot prevent a DDoS attack against someone using that system to hide from law enforcement. Why is any other user of Tor immune from such attack? And wouldn't such an attack interrupt Bitcoin transactions if directed against someone desiring to conduct Bitcoin transactions?

$5000 is all someone is asking for and he is able to conduct a successful DDOS attack? Damn this market is very fragile. Lots of motivation for manipulation.

It's the current price for sellers. You know, the important number.

Do you think it stays that price, gets lower, or gets higher within the next 30 days?

I have no idea what the 52 week low is.

I do know the 30 day high is $266.

Based on its recent volatility, it probably goes both lower and higher notwithstanding your claim of its "relative stability."

Are you saying past values are irrelevant?

When you sell an asset, commodity, stock, etc. you ignore the valuation history of it?

Well yeah.

Are you trying to move towards the cap gains angle here or what?

I'm just trying to understand why any seller of anything would consider past values to be wholly irrelevant today.

ETA: from an investment standpoint

Because if I need to sell today I can't say "well frick, let me sell for the price it was a month ago. Because it was higher then". You sell for todays rate.

I have an order of two ASIC miners from Butterfly Labs. They have started shipping and I need to confirm my order before they ship mine. Do you think I should keep the order or cancel it?

I think a buyer would be a lot more concerned with past prices because he/she is doing the valuation.
