I currently have no use for them as a currency. Dollars work just fine for me.

I try to invest in assets that have some intrinsic value. And I invest for the long term.

I would not buy a bitcoin for free right now.

That may sound absurd since bitcoins trade for over $100. The reason why I wouldn't anyway is that the value of the time and effort required for me to even start dealing with them greatly exceeds $100.

However, I would gladly do that work to get 100 bitcoins at no cost and even Russian might do so.

Nahhh, Russian doesn't sign up for Ponzi schemes.

How about 2.5 free coins? Worth it?

Only a fool would say no since Bitcoins are trading at about $116 at the moment. That being said, I have not invested the time, energy or resources to create a wallet for storing Bitcoins. So, I couldn't really buy one from someone willing to sell for less than current market price.

If $50 reflected the current market price, then I would not buy a Bitcoin for $50.

And it is now $96.50 (MtGox) two days later on May 2.

But at least it's 'relatively stable.'
