New Details

The last topic only stated that the bill was passed. This one gives a little more insight into the requirements. I really like the fact that you have to still do your renewal classes every 5 years. I don't think anyone should just apply and pay for a lifetime and never take another class.

I cannot make up my mind on this one. I see both sides of the argument.

ETA:
quote:

The lifetime permit would cost $500 and would require the permit holder to provide proof of renewed educational training every five years.

Sounds like a hunting license... get your class and buy your lifetime license. If you stay in LA for 20 years, you break even. The education requirements appear to be the same, but would likely be cheaper for the renewal cycles

Good point. I mean I would rather not take a refresher but I'm always up for talking/learning about guns. I guess that's why I don't see a problem with it

unlike driving though, certain cc laws/rights can and do change. i like the idea. it immediatly helps out the state finacilly as well. If you are under 50, i see no reason not to do the lifetime.

The only difference is that laws of the road don't change that often, and it's good to have continuing education of updated uses of lethal force. I like the idea.

I'm onboard!

True. However as citizens you are supposed to keep yourself informed about laws in any aspect. I think classe are a good idea but shouldn't be mandatory

Your certificate is good for 12 months, but you can't apply that early. You should be ready to apply as soon as you receive your renewal reminder letter.

Southern Shooting Cernter in Thibodaux was (hopefully still is?) a good place to take a class.

Driving laws change all the time, more than concealed carry laws.

And vehicles kill more people than people carrying concealed weapons.

Yea I'm an instructor but I still haven't been cleared by LSP so I'm in the dark on the laws right now. They're supposed to notify me of laws to teach once I get cleared.

And chad while you may be right, I like being updated on laws. The consequences of accidentally breaking a law far outweigh the burden of taking a renewal, free or not, every 5 years.

I dropped my license application off on march 13 and received the card today. Turnaround time was 49 days

its still BS. I need to take a class on laws because i have my shirt tucked over my gun, but if I tuck my shirt behind my gun, its open carry no law required.

Also, its asinine the amount of $ these jackasses are charging for the class out there.

I don't think you should be able to just do the class one time and never again. Like I said earlier, I enjoy learning new things pertaining to guns and like bapple mentioned, these laws change all the time. I'm probably in the minority but that's just my opinion
