Both are great assistant coach hires in their respective sports. If you were given a budget of $1 Million dollars to split between the two of them based solely on how good of a coach they are in their respective areas of expertise, how would you divide it.

This thread is intended to gauge Dunn's value to the pitching in baseball as to Chavis' value to the defense in football. Giving them each $500K would say that you think they are just as valuable. The thread is not intended to compare things like football is more important so Chavis wins or football makes more money for the U so Chavis wins, or I really like baseball so Dunn.

I think I would give Dunn $600K and the Chief 400K as I think Dunn is just a bit more valuable than the Chief.

Comparing college football to college baseball? I wonder which one fans will find more important...

This is possibly one of the dumbest fricking opinions I've seen on the rant. Literally idiotic. Did you start watching LSU sports in 2010? Do you remember our defense in 2008? It was shite. Our pitching was fine in 2009 with whoever we had.

Dunn: minimum wage
Chavis: the balance

I thought I could make it past one response without someone failing to see that

So you're essentially asking us to completely suspend all reality and compare two different coaches in two very very different sports?

Cool thread.

I don't think there is anything dumb about saying that I think Dunn knows more and contributes more to a pitching staff than the Chief does to a defense. They are both good, just trying to make a comparison.

Also if you think this is the dumbest opinion on the rant EVER, you don't read the rant. This is a place where people said their opinion was Hanover hits 120 mph on a throw from third to first. This is a place where people had the opinion that Mathieu can't cover. Not just that it wasn't the best thing he did, that he actually could not cover a receiver. This is a place where people said Trindon Holiday should play defensive end. So, no. Not even close.

So you are incapable of determining whether Chavis or Dunn makes a bigger impact on their sport? That's all it is really asking you to quantify.

My guess is Dunn will be head coach at Bama if Gaspard doesn't work out unless he just likes being the pitching coach and not having to deal with the headaches of a head coach position.

Interesting. Does he have ties there or do you just think he would be the first guy called for any SEC gig?

Dunn is a 1 out of 100 pitching guy.
Chavez is a 1 out of 1000 defensive guy.

Dunn $100,000
Chavez $900,000

Is Dunn good? Sure. What do you think would happen if he fell ill and had to miss a weekend series vs Florida? Mainieri handles the staff and there's a slight drop off.

Now picture les calling the defense against Florida On a Saturday night.

You tell me who is more valuable.

Dunn played for Bama CWS team back in the 80's
and was honored during LSU's visit when they honored that team

That's a good point. Look at an all world talent like Kevin Gausman. A freshman with Grewe 5-6 6.53 ERA 23 walks 86 Ks in 89 innings.

Under Dunn the next year:

12-2 a 2.77 ERA in 17 starts and one relief appearance, recording 135 strikeouts in 123.2

Pretty impressive.
