re: Roster "Locks" as of today

Right that will be the big question. This year I'm thinking we keep an extra LB over an extra safety just because most of the guys we have we know what we are getting whereas at LB we have a lot of project guys where they might want to take a flyer on one extra.

My honest guess is we keep Vaccaro and Harper as the starters with Leonhard as the vet backup and IAQ as the young backup. Then you can put Leonhard in when Vaccaro is playing SS or NB.

You can do the same if you keep Jenkins over Leonhard. My guess is the last spot goes to either of those 2 but as I said I'm leaning towards Leonhard and Jenkins getting cut as a message/salary cap move.

And the reason I think Jenkins goes over Harper(aside from skill) is that Harper could have been cut before the 3rd day of the league year back in March and he would have saved us another $2.6 mil on top of the $2.65 he would save us now. That would have been $5.25 mil off the books and we'd only have his signing bonus($1.75 mil) on the cap.

Whereas Jenkins is on his last year of his rookie deal and stated himself that he wasn't sure what was going on with that. Usually if you like a guy you extend him at the end of his rookie contract and save some money(Jenkins' contract is still from the old CBA where this made sense as the contracts were larger).

So you don't cut Harper when you could have saved a lot of money(I don't think he sees that last year as is however) and you don't extend Jenkins to save yourself some money. Something about that screams out to me.
