99% of my friends are from br.

Only 2 in my whole group that like bball are me and my gf.

They are all bandwagon baseball fricktards and often use the black excuse ignoring the fact blacks play football

BR isn't my hometown so I guess that's why I don't follow this trend. I moved here when I was 18 and have lived here off and on the past 9.5 years

Aye man we all played T-ball ... Nah, I played it until like 9. Then basketball came a calling (I was garbage though).

In addition to what mikey said, don't you think a fair number of people in Nola watching are LSU football fans interested in seeing where LSU players were drafted?

Id say more than a fair number as evidenced by this website.

If LSU had multiple players being selected in the NBA draft, I think it is pretty obvious more people would tune in.

It really doesnt have anything to do with the Pels, in that sense, but it points out a fallacy in the OP using the logic that viewer ratings = pro team support.

Hence why I used quotations earlier

I don't think that's the hornets fault though. I do know more people out here watched when Thornton got drafted but nevertheless, people need to expand their mind and not just follow two sports or two teams. shite, casually turn on a hornets game and there's that. I don't agree with the saying that if lsu is good they will tune into the hornets, I just think people will actually show up to a lsu game. Gotta cross that bridge first

I don't think we will ever see that kind of stat with the draft. success means late round pick which is very uneventful in nba drafts. I mean in terms of local support for the team. would winning a title sell out games and have people at bars talking about the pels not just the saints? it's hard to go a day ,any day not necessarily just during the season, without seeing someone in saints gear. I want that type of devotion and loyalty to the pels.

I won't be going back there anytime soon. Way too boring of a city. Although I wouldn't mind catching a Pelicans-Thunder game there.

I guess you really aren't that hard of a partier, then.

My opinion, based upon attending games since the team moved to N.O., talking to people who are fans, casual fans and non-fans, observing the local landscape and looking more closely at attendance trends here and across the league (at least I used to until I got bored with it)is that N.O. can and probably will be a viable market under the Benson regime. For one thing, his ownership and the re-branding will help.

Look, when Paul, West and Chandler were here and made that run 07-08, the Arena had something like 18 sellouts from the end of December until the end of the regular season. Then, they sold out all of the playoff games. Their home attendance ranked somewhere in the middle of the pack, and the N.O. Arena is not among the largest in terms of seating capacity. Not only that, but there was interest around the city.

Consistent winning with a couple of likeable stars will do the trick. Will they ever be as ingrained in the local sports culture as the Saints? Doubtful. But they will become part of that culture and they will be successful.

Couple of thoughts: America, especially the South, loves football. So it is going to be hard for the Pels to ever be more popular than, or even as popular as, the Saints.

That being said, the same thing can be said in a lot of places. Just because the NFL is the #1 sport in town doesn't mean their can't be support for another team as well. I've lived in DC/Virginia for over a decade. For years it was pretty much all Redskins, all the time. But the the Nats add Strasburg, Harper, and an NL East winning team and the attendance numbers are up and I see Nats stuff everywhere now.

I think the same thing would happen in NOLA. The city hasn't seen enough pro sports success (one pro championship ever). If the Pels are good and have a couple of stars, the town will adopt them no doubt. Especially since there are only two pro franchises in town.

Last thought: the NFL draft tv numbers are definitely influenced by LSU just as much as the Saints. Witness Birmingham having big numbers as well. Think those are Falcons, Saints and Titans fans watching?

The team has had 10 years to do this. They will never consistently sell out every game like with the Saints.

For all practical purposes, this franchise is only in its second year.

Probably not. Doesn't mean they won't be successful, however.

Not as much as you think. And . . . SHOCKER . . . . N.O. doesn't have the population of some cities with multiple teams.

Someone is not checking their facts!

LINK

Count the teams who sell out 41 games. Which if those compete with other sports? What are you left with?

Champs and big markets.

Done.

Yawn.

absolutely. and if you look through that link to 2008 and 2009, it appears that n.o. did fine with attendance. it is almost physically impossible for the franchise to rank in the top ten in absolute numbers.

That would require effort and learning a single thing.

Tall orders.
