So say Man City goes winless next year they go to lower division?

Are the contracts from the relegated clubs voided, since its an EPL contract?

2nd división, yes.

Most, not all contracts, correspond to top flight play.

What contracts are you talking about? The club's contract with the league regarding profit distribution? The players contracts with the clubs?

If you mean player contracts the answer is, not necessarily. The player's contract is with the club not the Premier League. It depends on the terms in the player's contract.

Some players have terms inserted in their clauses whereby the club cannot cut the player's salary significantly or at all in the event that it gets relegated. In which case it becomes economically unsustainable for the club to keep the said player on its books while playing in the championship which is a level below and has lower profit margins etc.

Also for the same reason the club may have to sell some of its better players off if it gets relegated just to balance its books because it won't be making as much money in the Championship. The TV Revenue is lower, the sponsorships are lower, attendances are lower and so on.

Some players have release and/or buyout clauses set into their contracts. Whereby the club is bound by the contract to accept any offers that come for the player if they get relegated.

There can be other factors that I can't think of. But it depends on the player's contract and how he (his agent) negotiated it. Hope this helped.

It's fairly simple.

The worst teams of the higher division move down, while the best teams of the lower division move up.

Not completely positive on this. I would imagine that in the case of the bigger clubs, some sort of clause exists. I can't imagine the players at the smaller clubs (Wigan, Reading, QPR, Southampton, Norwich, etc.) have them though.

smart clubs whether it's manchester united or wigan will have clauses that cut wages in the event of relegation

if you don't and you get relegated, it's a double whammy. wolves might be paying players on premier league contracts with league 1 money.

every club relegated gets parachute payments for a few years afterwards unless they go straight back up

Yes, but do they void contracts?

as do the players have a clause which frees them of renegotiating fees with the club, should it be relegated. They´re either free to stay at an artificially high, albeit lower than topflight wage, or may leave with no penalty due.

Don't they call that a release clause? If a team gets relegated certain players can leave for free if it's been written into their contracts.

Yes. However, sides which have been relegated, but really don´t belong at the lower level, will forge a side to win ascensión or promotion, and many a time, they´ll need a key player, and they will play at a lower wage, with bonuses for various performance objectives or milestones.

Juventus got relegated for match fixing. They destroyed serie B and moved back up the very next year.

See QPR's roster after the season... it will be a fire sale...

Isn't Samba on close to £100,000/wk... Remy, Granero, Cesar... there are some deals to be had...

Even Taarabt wouldnt be a bad pick up...

Barton is on high wages, so he'll likely be moved permanently to Marseille...

I've heard Samba's wages were extremely exaggerated.

Taarabt is a very good player, but he needs a solid manager to keep him in line.

If they eliminated college football and put actual professional football in the same places they could.

Instead, we're left with 32 markets chosen for us for "professional" football, and a 1000's of kids who get paid to play while printing money for schools and TV networks and we get to pretend they aren't paid.

Good times.
