Why did you think it got moved to versus? Because the ratings when they were on NBC were just soo fantastic NBC execs ran out of ways to spend all that revenue they tossed it to versus?

Maybe. Hockey isn't the same to watch on TV. I love it live, can't watch it on TV. It's like soccer, you have to be there.

Soccer ratings are fine in Europe.....because there are alot of soccer fans. You see how that works

You made him mad....

Sad thing is those stereotypes are both pretty correct

I enjoy pretty much every sport besides baseball and nascar really, but I will watch a large event.

The thing that makes the NFL better than any other league though is that you can have good teams from small markets make it to the Super Bowl and it will still be the most watched television event that year.

Stern will not let that happen in the NBA. I know the ratings would be terrible if my Grizzlies made it and played against some team like the Pacers. No star power or large market draw. The ratings would be terrible.

Yea, Stern doesn't want a repeat of those Det/San An finals

However, I dont think its about market size as much as it is star power. OKC gets great ratings because of KD, RW, etc

Thats the only logical explanation if you think that Nascar is more popular than the NBA: you clearly must not know many NBA fans and you obviously know a disproportionate number of Nascar fans. Its really not that complicated, didn't think it needed such an explicit explanation.

I'll go ahead and say that no one has Versus anymore.

Ah, you are making wild guesses based on some preconceived notion because you don't have the ability to do anything else.

You still haven't explained it. Are you saying you think I am a Nascar fan and all my friends are Nascar fans?

Is that what all you could could come up with?

People who, for some reason, think Nascar is more popular than the NBA throughout this country.

quote:

Ah, you are making wild guesses based on some preconceived notion

Based on what you believe, which is contrary to factual evidence aka TV ratings.

because you don't have the ability to do anything else.

I have national TV ratings. You have....polls of just over 2,000 people? Which is the stronger evidence?

No, I got this too:

Because many polls, which are as scientific as ratings, have made this conclusion.

quote:

Let me see if I got this correct. Based on the facts that I actually use data (polls)to make a point, you came to some idiotic conclusion that I was some fan of Nascar?

quote:

How many people do you think are included in the Nielson poll?

Let me educate you on something here so you can learn. While you scoff at the low numbers used in Harris and other polls, did you realize (rhetorical, I know you didn't) that Nielson uses 5,000 people in it's database to determine ratings?

So, it was the polls that set you off, and got your panties in a wad, yet Nielson uses the same kind of representative sampling and you give it more credence in deciding on what is "more popular" than what people actually said? In multiple polls?

There is a fundamental difference between a poll and TV ratings:

A poll simply asks whats your favorite sport? Everybody likely has a favorite sport, even if they aren't really sports fans. Its all talk. If my dad was included in a poll, hed say his favorite sport is soccer...which he watches once every 4 yrs when the WC comes on. Hes a "t-shirt" soccer fan

Ratings are all about actions. If you really are a fan, prove it. Which is why ratings are always sited for sporting events, TV shows, etc as a measure of popularity. I'm sure CBS uses some type of poll when it decides every one of its shows is the "most popular drama/comedy/etc on TV"

Some sports don't lend themselves to TV. Hockey is one. I love hockey, never watch it on TV. I hate Nascar (which blows your stupid theories about "me and people like me" away) and don't see how the hell you could spend hours watching that crap.

There are many many dynamics to tv ratings. Based on polls, attendence I think it's safe to say there is some agreement with favorite sports. Ratings don't line up with either. In fact, if you look at tv ratings and finals vs world series, the NBA is more popular than college football. That sure isn't true.

You don't really "love" it as much as you say then. Again, which is why I would rather trust TV ratings over polls.

attendence

Are you still talking about attendance? Seriously

quote:

Ratings don't line up with either.

Ratings don't line up with some polls. Again, attendance is meaningless in this discussion. But polls change and vary. Ratings have been pretty consistent over the recent past. Another reason why ratings > polls.

Again, idk where you get your "data" from. NBA finals got around an 11. BCS championship game got around a 16.

You really have some narrow concept you are trying to exploit and nothing anyone says, or shows you, will change that. You telling me I don't like something as much as I think... ..no..

Yeah, simply because they don't validate your beliefs. You pick and choose the metrics and get bent out of shape over anything else.

There are polls that show basketball favorability if you dig enough. Are they flawed?

Major League baseball. Not college football. My mistake.
