Two scenes that stand out to me are in The Butterfly Effect when the dog is burned alive and in Halloween when Michael kills the dog. I did not have that feeling when Michael kid any of the humans.

De-sensitization and over exposure of people being killed in movies and on tv..we also like dogs better because they love unconditionally.

You are a monster if you don't get upset when something so cute like these dies.

I don't. Dogs are not people and I neither think of them nor treat them like people.

There are so many more shitty people in this world than shitty dogs and at least dogs don't have the intelligence to know they suck whenever they do. If someone is a shitty person I have no problem seeing them die instead of a good dog (in movies)

I don't cry when dogs die. I have cried a couple times when people have died.

You have to see it. Despite the scene, it is one of my 5 all time favorite films.

Astute observation. Kudos.

Again, congrats.

We don't do dogs any favors by treating them like humans in every respect. Dogs are their own species. However, they have emotions (don't even attempt to argue otherwise . . . science will be against you) and they are great companions who deserve our respect. As someone else on TD pointed out, after the harnessing of fire, the domestication of the wolf may be the next great human achievement. It's sad when dogs die because they are truly innocent creatures.

This. And basically we care more when dogs die in movies because by and large most dogs are nicer than most people in general, and for less reason.
