In three man fronts, I do think the the pick up of Jenkins will lead to him spending more time at LDE. Will move inside (probably with Jordan) in 4 man fronts.

I think he will be a perfect fit for a 3-4 DE him, Jenkins, and Jordan could be a solid group

They'll play him all over the place I think. But they're definitely training him to be a defensive end eventually.

He'll play NT and DE. Payton said he'll primarily be a NT but will be cross trained.

I do think the hope is he'll replace Smith next year. But for this year he'll likely be the primary rotation for Bunkley and Smith. Having Jenkins doesn't change that. Jenkins will likely be in on run downs and against run heavy teams and when we are getting gashed. He's not NFL ready as a 3 down NT.

Ryan doesn't do many 4 man fronts. He is different from GW in that he doesn't switch his base too much.

Now he will do some stuff like 1-5-5 and 3-3-5 in passing situations.

That was before they traded two 4th rounders to take a true NT. Bunkley and Jenkins are the primary NTs while Hicks will see most of his time at DE where he belongs.

Jenkins is not an NFL ready 3 down NT. Hicks will still be the primary backup at NT and DE. Jenkins will be a run sub.

Jenkins is more NFL ready that Hicks was coming out of college in Canada just a year ago. Jenkins is ready to contribute at NT now as long as he is in shape.

False. Hicks was going to LSU before that stuff happened. All indications were that he was a 3 down NFL ready DT. He had the ability to rush and stop the run.

Jenkins has very little rush ability.

He's not supposed to be. Bunkley for 1st and 2nd down, especially run plays, with Jenkins on 3rd down passing attempts. He's actually a good pass rusher

Yes, he was going to LSU. But he didn't and missed that developmental time. Even though we all loved Hicks' play this year, he is still raw and doesn't have any pass rush moves yet. Meanwhile, Jenkins played for an SEC-title level defense and is a physical, ready-to-play nose tackle. He actually pushed the pocket quite well in a defense designed to free up outside playmakers like Jarvis Jones. Hicks has more potential as a game-breaking guy up front, but Jenkins is ready to play as a space eater.

I don't think Hicks has ever played NT in a 3-4 while Jenkins was a pretty dominant one at UGA.

On the no pass rush thing, he had 6.5 sacks his second college year and showed plenty of penetration in the few snaps he had last year. To say he has no pass rush is blatantly false.

Actually here is a snippet about him:

"Hicks projects to be a third-down, pass-rusher type at first, with the potential to develop into an every-down player"

LINK

It was the run he was questionable with and he seemed to do well with that in college(44 tackles in his second season) and with us.

I'll give you he may not have played NT, but as I've been saying Bunkley and Hicks are the type of NT Ryan likes. Jenkins is going to be the run stopping specialist.

And it has been discussed on this board a lot already how only really Ratliff in Dallas fits that description of "what Ryan likes" from his stops. Ryan inherited a rare breed small standout and used him because he is smart enough to build the defense around the talent. The Saints didn't trade two fourth rounders to take a guy who will not play a lot more snaps quickly at NT than Hicks will. Hicks, on the other hand, is clearly exciting as a DE in the 3-4 with his versatile skill set.

We will finally have youth and speed at the DE positions with Hicks and Jordan. How many times have we seen teams run their RB at the middle and then bounce it out to the outside Add Jenkins at NT and Quicker OLB's and you hope to get a huge improvement in the run def.
