I think at least one of these guys will last till the 5th.

Khaseem Greene Last year he had 136 tackles, 12 for loss, 6 sacks, 2 picks, 7 passes defended, and 10 qb hurries

quote:

2013 NFL DRAFT RANG'S GANG: OLB: Khaseem Greene, Rutgers, 6-1, 241, 4.67...Green rarely is mentioned in the same breath as Manti Te'o, Kevin Minter, Arthur Brown or Alec Ogletree as one of the elite linebackers of the 2013 class but I'm not sure why. He's the two-time defending Big East Defensive Player of the Year since making the transition to linebacker after starting all 12 games at free safety in 2010. Whereas most of the "elite" linebackers in this draft class talk about making big plays, Greene actually made them, playing a role in a staggering 19 turnovers (12 forced fumbles, six interceptions, one fumble recovery) over a remarkable career. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

Chase Thomas

quote:

Chase Thomas, OLB, Stanford...In racking up 50.5 tackles for loss over his career, Thomas established himself as an instinctive, productive player for the Cardinal. Critics, however, questioned whether he was a product of Stanford's scheme, a stigma Thomas failed to overcome in Indianapolis by ranking the slowest among all outside linebackers tested in the 40-yard dash at 4.91 seconds.

John Simon

quote:

Despite being hampered by a knee injury that limited him to just 11 games in 2012, Simon was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year with 44 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and a career-high nine sacks. On more than one occasion, the high-effort Simon was characterized by Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer as the "heart and soul" of the team.

Ty Powell

quote:

ROB RANG'S 2013 NFL DRAFT DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH: Ty Powell, Harding, 6-2, 249, 4.60 ...Having played defensive end, linebacker and safety for Harding, scouts knew Powell was versatile and he certainly appeared to be quite athletic. He demonstrated just how athletic at the combine, when he ranked among the most explosive in his position group in the vertical jump (37") and three-cone drill (6.98-seconds). The athleticism shows up on tape, as Harding has an explosive burst off the snap, as well as impressive change of direction. These traits helped him rack up 12 tackles for loss, including 8.5 sacks and block a school-record four kicks in 2012. Powell could hear his name called as early as the late third round. No Harding player has been selected in the draft since the Denver Broncos selected defensive back Bruce Baldwin in the fifth round 30 years ago.

Trevardo Williams 4.57 in the forty. 1.58 in the 10 yard split(most important and one of the fastest among all players.

quote:

2012 ALL-BIG EAST FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DL, Trevardo Williams (Unanimous), Connecticut, Sr., Bridgeport, Conn./Canterbury, has been selected First Team All-BIG EAST Conference (Coaches selection) for the 2012 college football season. Williams, a Second Team selection a year ago, totaled a team-high 11.5 sacks and led the league with 0.96 sacks per game. He finished his four year career at UConn as the all-time leaders in sacks with 30.5. Williams was also third on the team with 13.5 tackles for loss and ranked tied for fourth in the BIG EAST with 1.12 per game. - Connecticut football

Any one of these could be a great pick in the 5th round

He's still available. But will probably be gone. I hope Trevardo Williams lasts, or at least one of the last 3

not as an OLB

He might get big enough to play DE in our 3-4 though.

Straight beast. Forgot about him. 23 sacks in 3 years(3 against DJ Fluker last year) 40 Tackles for loss.

Could be a damn good pick in the 5th. Might not last that long though. Only reason he's still available is because of a knee injury

I wouldn't be against Cornelius Washington from UGA is he is still there. Physical freak, didn't produce at UGA for some reason. BUt 5th round you can't expect to be drafter ready to play starters.

Very similar to Quanteres Smith. But Smith has way better production

Alex Okafor and CornWash will probably be off the board in the 4th, but I like Michael Buchanon, Brandon Jenkins, and Chase Thomas if available in the 5th.

Also wouldnt be surprised if we skip OLB all together and really grab BPA value steals with the final two picks. At this point in the draft, a drafted OLB would be competing with Braylon Broughton and the white guys for the #4 spot

Edit: I would hate to waste a pick on a scrub QB when Drew still has 5-6 years left (hopefully). This QB class really isn't that great, and I'm sure the saints can nab an UDFA QB that has been mocked in the 5-7 rounds...

I feel bad for that dude. He's had his position changed every single year for the past 4

Same here. I would rather sign JaMarcus and try and trade him in a couple years. Lots of good players left in the draft. Got to make the most of it

Simon sounds good.

Played and excelled at a major college.

Should be a solid backup.

He also seems like a very motivated team player. With the potential of eventually being a starter

The funny thing is, they already have two developmental OLBs in this defense (JG and Martez). Do they really need another one plus Butler are the top four? Maybe they look for a younger ILB since they are much older there?

Also, if they want a proven vet OLB, Shaun Phillips (turns 32 next month and had 9.5 sacks last year with SD) is a free agent post-draft who makes sense. Let him fight it out with the other three.

Some of these players can step in almost right away.

No money. Rookie contracts are already calculated in the cap room. He would want several mil per year
