re: The politics of Duck Dynasty

That's why I like it so much. It's a reality show that's not driven solely by bull shite and drama and manufactured story lines. It's just a bunch funny people doing random funny shite.

I'm sure it is, but the television universe is fragmented like never before. Duck Dynasty may be #1, but the vast majority of people are still watching something else in that time slot, or watching nothing at all. You'd have a better argument if this was the seventies and DD was #1 on a Big Three network.

Well, I enjoy the show and the characters as well and I think they seem to genuinely stay true to who they are, which is refreshing. But the show is nothing but manufactured story lines and drama.

re: The politics of Duck Dynasty

I am proud to say I have never willingly watched a 'reality show' - I think I had to sit through the original one = Survivor???

I once opened a youtube video of Honey BOO BOO and it was so bad I felt grimy.

Duck Dynasty picqued my interest when I heard of it and actually looked in on it - I thought it would be about duck calling. What I saw was a bunch of idiots trying to build a conveyor belt to assist them in folding boxes or something like that - quit it after 15 minutes without duck-calling.

that's it = I am ashamed of my America for the existance of such inanity and especially for its popularity.

They seem to be good people, and everything's done good naturedly. There's a mean-spiritedness to a lot of so called reality shows.

I disagree. Do you remember Ozzie and Harriet? I thought that was the dumbest show on TV. Two people with their two boys doing nothing.
The precursor to Seinfeld. Ozzie and Harriet was a great show.

I've never watched an episode of Seinfeld. How is it like O and H?

I wouldn't call myself a regular watcher, but I look in on it once in a while. It's interesting to see familiar locations.

re: The politics of Duck Dynasty

I'm a pretty big TV snob, though I'm getting better about that. Duck Dynasty is the only guided-reality show that I watch.

It's kind of refreshing to see a group of relatively down to earth people espousing family values and cracking wise with each other.

By no means will I say it's the best show on TV, or the funniest, but to me, it's better than a lot of shite that's out there. Much better than just about everything on MTV where they incentivize and commoditize irresponsible behavior.

ETA: I don't know when the new episodes air, or what season we're in, but I watch it when I'm flipping through the channels.

My 5 year old likes it. The characters are interesting though not complex in anyway. There is nothing intellectual stimulating about it. It is mindless fun and my son likes me watching it with him. He also can take away some great family values from it. Which is a bonus.

Very well said.

Why should you get better about that?
I gave up prime time TV in the early 70s. My problem with comedy and drama in prime time was simple... the writing was horrible.

I get the same quality entertainment when I visit my South Arkansas/North Louisiana friends ...without having to turn on the TV.

I even know a couple of guys who sounds like Mountain Man. But I do enjoy watching DD from time to time.

Oh, I'm still going to be picky about what I watch. What I'm getting better about is telling other people that what they watch sucks.

I'm getting tired of hating everything.

A show about nothing. O and H was great. People would like it today.

I've watched it a couple of times, and it appears to be pretty heavily staged. It's entertaining sometimes. Most crap produced for TV today seems to be aimed at doing it cheaply, so we don't have a lot to choose from.

I'm somewhat related to that DD family, my Aunt's (mom's sister) husband is first cousins with Phil.

Congress should be forced to watch it. They disagree, then they work it out, then they pray, and then eat some good cookin'.
